If so, please share any info. you have. I found an abandoned book on Thailand and figure it's a sign I should go. The book doesn't offer info on hotels, etc.
Thinking Singapore and the Peninsula-not sure about Bangkok, except for one night. :). Thanks to anyone who has info.

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble.

I love that song.

One night in Bangkok and the world's your oyster
The bars are temples but the pearls ain't free
You'll find a god in every golden cloister
A little flesh, a little history
I can feel an angel sliding up to me

One night in Bangkok makes a hard man humble
Not much between despair and ecstasy
One night in Bangkok and the tough guys tumble
Can't be too careful with your company
I can feel the devil walking next to me

The Thais I know around here tend to regard Bangkok as a necessary evil on the way to visiting family outside that city- very crowded and hot all the time.

Not me, but my 28 year old niece went, she love it, rode an elephant, stayed in a hut.

The photos were fabulous.

I can get info from her as to where they stayed etc. if you want it.

I know they went to Koh Bubu.

Stay away from Monkey Island and I think they are under a state of emergency right now, Thailand, I mean.

Minnie, yes would appreciate info from your niece. Thank you.

Alicia, I ran into a GF yesterday who mentioned a possible political unrest-of course, I was in denial. Thanks for posting-usually the unrest and crazy stuff begins AFTER I leave. Maybe the book was abandoned for a diff. reason. Thanks!

Did you see the piece on the woman who went to Monkey Island to get over her fear of monkeys?

Will do, she can at least give you a list of what not to miss seeing. Her accommidations might be more adventurous than you want. She is a journalist and she travels the world, roughing it.

No, there's no Pho King Way. Thailand is too crowded anyway, ever since the rein of Wee Phu Kem Yung.

Lived in Singapore in 2008. Been to Bangkok quite a few times too.

Bangkok? Ok for a day or two. If you like shopping hit MBK and Chatuchak Weekend Marke. MBK is inside, so you will not be turned into a puddle..Weekend Market, not so much : ) Chatuchak is quite an exp. Can buy anything there..anything from lemurs to pudding pops. In all shops, expect to haggle.

Singapore? Used to have a saying when I was there.. Singapore is the biggest shopping mall in the world with a seat on the UN. Dont expect to buy clothes, unless you have them made...or if you are a very very petite size 0. I am 5'9 and always felt like I was shopping in the toddlers section :P Hunting for souviners, hit china town, best prices and some unique things.

The MRT system in Sing is top notch. Look for a hotel beside one of the stations. Orchard road, considered the '5 avenue' of Asia is a good spot.

Foodcourts. Not what they are here. To truly exp Sing, you have to eat here. They are everywhere. One of the things I loved about Sing..the good food was cheap, the bad for you fried crap was rather pricey. If you dont wish to go too local there are starbucks and mcdonalds everywhere. Beware Pizza Hut is not like it is here. They like thousandisland dressing and squid on a few of the pizzas, also being that much of the country is Muslim, pork products are frowned upon and replaced with chicken intimation substance.

Few more things about Singapore..very clean, nearly crime free, and the official language is English (So they say, but it is often 'Singlish' a combo of Mandarin, Hokken, Malay and English. Still not that hard to understand though. La). Big bonus to finding your way around over Thailand.

Well need to cut this short..or else it will be a book. Let me know what else you would like to know :)

All Y'all are funny, funny, funny. I have been reprimanded a time or two on the pronunciation of Phuket......sposed to be one of the best beaches in the world, and kinda' sleepy, too.

Thank you, Selkie, great info. - we should chat!

Pho is pronounced "fuh" in Vietnamese. Up in the Seattle area there is a chain of noodle houses called "What the Pho?"
