America meet Sharron Angle, Nevada senatorial candidate

I pretty much only watched this because I like Rachel Maddow so if you don't like her you may want to take a pass on this. I found it entertaining...

A biased show on senatorial candidate Sharron Angle.
It does makes me want to read more about her. I grew up in IL with my parents occasionally talking about the John Birch Society whose leader was across the state line from us in IN. I hadn?t thought of them in years.

I don't think Harry is in trouble because of her.

He managed to get himself in trouble with the voters all by himself with no help from Angle.

Angle in an interview with Mark Belling when he was subbing for Rush one day. Interesting. Listen. You might learn something MSNBC left out. Mrs. Angle takes no prisoners, Dems or Repubs.

I listened - I heard her talk about how awful Harry Reid is, and I heard her ask for donations to defeat him, and how embarrassing it would be for the Dems if he lost.

I didn't hear anything about her, except that she needs money and she's not Harry Reid.

Seriously, name one specific thing she said which was not a bumper sticker read out loud?

I've had it with all of these politicians sounding like they are a 20-year old bride that is spending all of her time thinking about the wedding, and not giving a thought to the marriage.

Did you just now learn all politicians ask for money? What I like about Sharron is she a true Conservative who loves our Constitution.

Meet Sharron
Sharron Angle was born in Klamath Falls, Oregon on July 26, 1949. Her father worked in the family business, a potato farm, until he enlisted in the Navy and fought in WWII. After WWII, her father was called up a second time for the Korean conflict. Sharron, her parents and her three younger brothers moved to Reno, Nevada after her father's discharge where they owned and operated a small motel for over 20 years.

Sharron Angle graduated from Wooster High School in Reno. Four years later, she earned her BA in Fine Arts from the University of Nevada Reno.

While a senior at University of Nevada Reno, Sharron married Ted Angle. Sharron and Ted have two children and ten grandchildren.

Upon graduation Sharron and her husband left Reno and spent the next 25 years living the rural Nevada towns of Ely, Winnemucca and Tonopah. During that time she worked as a substitute teacher in public schools; taught art courses at Western Nevada Community College (now Great Basin Community College) in Winnemucca for five years; and co-founded, administrated, and taught grades K-12 in a one-room Christian school of 24 students for two years. While in Tonopah, Sharron also tutored at Nye County Juvenile Justice for six years and operated the Tonopah Life Center (family-oriented fitness gym.)

Sharron was first elected in 1990 to the Nye County School Board of Trustees. The family moved back to Reno in 1995 and in 1998 she was elected to the Nevada State Assembly where she faithfully served until 2006 fighting for smaller government, lower taxes, and a better Nevada for future generations. She is proud of her past chairwomanship of We the People Nevada PAC that sponsored the Property Tax Restraint Initiative.

A true protector of the Nevada Constitution, Sharron has fought and won judicial battles to protect Nevadan's constitutional rights. In 2003 while serving as the Minority Whip in the Nevada State Assembly, Sharron challenged the Governor's proposed massive $800 million tax hike. Supported by Nevada's constitutional requirement that all tax increases be approved by a two-thirds super majority, battle lines were drawn between the Republicans in the Assembly and the Governor. Sharron and fourteen other courageous Republicans consistently voted against the tax measure through the end of the regular session of the legislature and on through two special sessions. The Governor then sued the legislature in Angle v Guinn to force a decision by the Nevada Supreme Court. The Court over-ruled the two-thirds requirement which meant the taxes were to be imposed through a simple majority rather than by two-thirds vote. Using her own funds, Sharron hired Dr. John Eastman of the Claremont Institute to defend the Nevada's Constitution against this injury. Angle and Eastman took this case to Federal District Court in Nevada, which ended up referring the case to the Ninth Circuit Court of Appeals, then finally to the U.S. Supreme Court.

The attention from Angle v Guinn resulted in the members of the Nevada Supreme Court which made that ruling either retired or were replaced through election defeat. Subsequently the new Court reversed the decision in 2007 reinstating the two-thirds requirement in the Constitution. In recognition of her fight to protect the Constitution, Sharron received the prestigious Claremont Institute Ronald Reagan Freedom Medallion for Courageous Client in 2004.

Though this was a personally costly case for Sharron to defend, this is precisely what she believes the founding fathers meant when they said we must "pledge our lives, our fortunes and our sacred honor" to protect our freedom and liberty.

In addition to her proud service in the Nevada legislature, Sharron has been an active member of the Republican Party for many years. She currently serves on the Nevada State Central Committee and has been the chairman of the Washoe County GOP precinct organization effort.

Sharron Angle is also a proud member of the Gun Owners of America, National Right to Life Committee, Concerned Women for America, Nevada Republican Assembly, Washoe County Republican Party, and Fellowship Community Church.

Legislative Service:

4 Term Assemblywoman for Washoe County, 1998 - 2006
Assembly Committee on Education, 1999 - 2005

Oh, come on, do you really believe that anyone could get more than two votes if they advocate no alcoholic beverages? Our country has been there and done that. It didn't work then and it wouldn't work now.

Out of that long list of out-of-the-mainstream positions, "no alcohol" is the only one you question?

I like all of her platform and don't believe the alcohol thingy. Got a source? Even if true, I'm not a johnny-one-note voter as no politician is perfect.

I've been trying to correct a typo in above post but just keep getting a white screen.

The UN - a huge financial drain on us and a good idea good bad.
Social Security needs reforming if it can even be saved. Bush wanted to but Congress wouldn't.
Medicare - Obama will be the ruination of that .
Smaller gov't is good. Get rid of those useless departments
Global warming has been proved a hoax. Man is not more powerful than Mother Nature.
Abortion is not a litmus test for me.
Love the cut taxes and spending
Nobody's taking my margarita

Yes, after I asked you what you specifically liked, since the radio interview said nothing, you said:

What I like about Sharron is she a true Conservative who loves our Constitution.

What does that mean, pragmatically, on a rubber-meets-the-road basis? I hear this all of the time, and it's just a bumper sticker, read out loud. I have yet to hear a reasonable platform which states what laws that means you want to enact or repeal.

It's like Hope and Change, just on the other side. There's no "there" there and I'm getting tired of hearing it parroted at me.

No, I don't live in Nevada. It's all moot to me.

Here4Good, I expect if you truly wanted to understand conservatism you would have researched it for yourself but I will give it a go for you.

Modern liberals believe truths are transitory and empirically determined, equality is desirable and attainable only through the action of the "state"and all peoples and societies should strive to organize themselves upon a rationalist and scientific paradigm.

Conservatism is based on the philosophy of freedom, individuality, enterprise, the sense of community, the sanctity of the family, the supremacy of the conscience, the spiritual view of life.

Hope this sets you free.

How did "supremacy of the conscience and the spiritual view of life" play out in the invasion of Iraq?

Is that why their chosen leaders end up looking for sex in airport bathrooms, have affairs in far away places, and hit on teenage male pages in the Capitol. Conservatives believe only in the "sanctity" of their own self preservation, everyone else be damned.

P.S. You should probably use quotations when using other peoples words and thoughts.

The question asked was answered. Thank you Mr. Buckley.. We have differing views here and that's a good thing. Embrace and cherish your freedom to express them because Obama is trying to take them away. As far as the Iraq war, I'm delighted Saddam and his evil sons are with all the virgins. Alpha, elicit sex is not the best subject to drag out to make your point as democrats are waay ahead in that department. You are so very misinformed if you believe conservatives are only for themselves. Have you discovered that this administration and their useful idiots are working very hard to divide us? Divide and conquer. Check out who they call their useful idiots.

I don't agree w/ the definitions proffered, BUT I like the fact that both "individuality" AND "sense of community" are BOTH in a single definition.

It seems to me that a very important key to "getting government right" is properly balancing individualism and community.

We can argue about what the right balance is--but I hope most of us can agree that it should not be totally one or totally the other.

I personally think a civilized society ought to ensure the following for all its citizens: health care; education; access to the legal system. Most conservatives tend to think these things ought to be individual responsibilities.

Looks like Reid may as well hang it up - God has made the choice for Nevadans. ..;-)

Sharron Angle Latest Republican to Claim God is on Her Side | Crooks and Liars
.
She does seem to just do intermmercials like this "interview"and I watched one on Fox where out of three "interviewers" I don't recall any of them asking her about positions - it was basically a fundraising commercial for her. And she is quite upfront about that: "The whole point of an interview is to ... earn something with it and I'm not going to earn anything from people who are there to badger me and use my words to batter me with."

Regarding mainstream media outlets she states: "There's no earnings for me there."
(I guess she doesn't consider Fox to be mainstream.)

On second thought ....... does anyone know how tight Harry Reid is with God? Is that how he got into the senate years ago? :idontno:

I'm not a Reid fan but this race is intriguing to me. What if Angle were to lose? Would that mean God had a change of heart? hmmmm .............

"There's no earnings for me there" ?? How about thinking about explaining your views to the general population rather than thinking about your earnings. (God would probably like that.)

I have more problem with the reasoning behind it, "Global warming has been proved a hoax. Man is not more powerful than Mother Nature."

So even if Man is weaker than this personification of the planet some refer to as "Mother Nature" why couldn't he still have a short-term detrimental effect on the way "she" functions.
