There, I said it. I had to get it out.
I have not listened to the tapes, but I have seen some of the transcripts. Substance abuse or what? I don't know.

Not to worry. I heard some of the audio, and so much was edited out for bad words, that I had no idea what he was saying. You know much more by reading the transcripts.
Now for the reason(s) why, I have no idea and don't really care. There are many more important people to worry about.

It's not so much about the person, Murray. It's about the dynamic to me. He built himself up from pretty much nothing. Made the jump to director in a big way. He kinda had it all and he just lost it.
I think I feel pretty duped too. He was a great actor, because I liked what I saw of him off screen, too. So I feel kinda sad and stupid at the same time. It's almost like he did the passion and the Aztec movies and then just whacked out
And besides, we're in the lounge. It's not supposed to be important

I have no idea either. Anger issues, alcohol, drugs, maybe he hates his mother. I do know he ain't right.

I'm not saying he isn't a little whacko, but there are indications that the tapes may have been "doctored". Also, his girlfriend has to be a little bit whacko (sorry, I'm using technical/medical terms) too. Apparently she taped a conversation that should have been personal and private, most likely provoked him a little bit, both of them most likely drunk, and then "somehow" the tapes ended up with the police. Sounds a bit like a set up to me. Again, I'm not saying he isn't a little whacko. Just saying...

Just being honest-
I heard it unedited on Howard Stern and listening to it and Howard and crew's commentary was one of the funniest things I have heard in a long time. Mel has serious issues...

I'm pretty sure he was whacked out when he did those movies.

There is a mash up out there of him and Christian Bale ranting at each other.

And then there is one of him ranting at kittens.

Great actor; sorry human.

It's really sad. From what I have heard of the tapes, it seems there is an underlying issue that we aren't privy to. Regardless of their problems, if any man raised a hand/fist at me or spoke to me like that, he'd be meeting several of my family members.

Great Tracy Morgan quote...
"The Mel Gibson tapes?calling women *****es and using the N- word, they ain't nothing but hiphop. He stole that concept from Lil Wayne."
? Tracy Morgan, weighing in on the actor's recorded rants, on The Tonight Show

Here's a good piece in NEWSWEEK on Mel Gibson:
Mel Gibson and the Ugly Face of Addiction - Newsweek
Obviously what he said was terrible, but when he said, "I'll put you in a ------- rose garden!" -- that was pure poetry.

I don't think is so much "WTH is wrong with Mel Gibson?", but "WTH is wrong with the woman who chooses to stay with him and have his baby?"

Anyone hitting anyone else in anger, especially stronger on weaker (regardless of sex), is wrong. From the male perspective: if you can't control yourself, or the situation, leave. It's not rocket science. If you know that you have personal control issues, and you still fall prey to provocation, then you deserve whatever punishment is due. "That's the way my momma/daddy/uncle Jim-Bob is/was" is no excuse. From the female perspective: if you can't control yourself, or fall prey to one who can't control themselves, but can't physically leave the immediate situation....take your lumps (one time only), wait for he/she to fall asleep......and leave. NEVER look back; never second-guess....it'll never "be better", no matter how many times they say they're sorry. I know that there are exceptions/extremes, but this is a main-stream response. For the others, wait for them to go to sleep.....

Well, according to the wikipedia entry on Mel his full name is Mel Colm-Cille Gerard Gibson.
I blame his parents.
With a moniker like that, he was bound to eventually blow up.

[ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mel_gibson[/ame] Gibson has said that he started drinking at the age of thirteen.[98] In a 2002 interview about his time at NIDA, Gibson said, "I had really good highs but some very low lows. I found out recently I'm manic depressive."[99]
Gibson was banned from driving in Ontario for three months in 1984 after rear-ending a car in Toronto while under the influence of alcohol.[100] He retreated to his Australian farm for over a year to recover, but he continued to struggle with drinking. Despite this problem, Gibson gained a reputation in Hollywood for professionalism and punctuality, so that Lethal Weapon 2 director Richard Donner was shocked when Gibson confided that he was drinking five pints of beer for breakfast.[82] Reflecting in 2003 and 2004, Gibson said that despair in his mid-30s led him to contemplate suicide, and he meditated on Christ's Passion to heal his wounds.[79][82][101] He took more time off acting in 1991 and sought professional help. That year, Gibson's attorneys were unsuccessful at blocking the Sunday Mirror from publishing what Gibson shared at AA meetings.[102][clarification needed] In 1992, Gibson provided financial support to Hollywood's Recovery Center, saying, "Alcoholism is something that runs in my family. It's something that's close to me. People do come back from it, and it's a miracle."[10

And now we know.
SoWal Insider
Does alcoholism cause violence or amplify what is inherent?
SoWal Guide
I believe alcoholism causes a person to be something they would not choose or approve in anyone or themselves.. just like many drug addictions.
I think we've seen over the course of years that Mel isn't the person we had envisioned in our own minds of who he is (based on what we see on screen and in his public life). He is a human serious issues. He has no real privacy so its hard to hide his worst and darkest flaws.

Maybe he's just mad, and I'm not talking angry.
