Glenn Beck is a Uniter not a Divider

The event that precipitated the firing of Shirley Sherrod was the fact that the film clip of her was going to be on Glenn Beck that night.

Do you think Glenn was going to run the Whole clip & show that it was a story of redemption?of prejudice turning to love & acceptance? Or do you think he was going to show the short clip & then accuse her of being a racist?

The thought that any decision made by anybody in the Federal government would be based on anything that Glenn Beck says, just scares me half to death. The right-wing blogger who gave the edited tape to Fox news admitted he knew of the existence of the un-edited tape as early as March. He's a complete sleaze bag and if anything good comes out of this, it will be that he is shown to be the hate-monger he truly is.

I believe it was her boss Tom Vilsack who threatened her that she was going to be on Beck.

Glenn Beck did not play the video clip, he wholeheartedly defended her and was upset that the White House and the NAACP threw her under the bus without having the facts of the situation.

EDIT: I was incorrect, as I was reading the Transcript of the show and not watching the show. He did play video as part of his bigger story, as Gidget posted below.

Beck comes out better than FOX colleagues

Beck came out looking better than his FOX colleagues:

On his Tues 7/20 radio show, Beck told his listeners there is
"videotape of a USDA administration official discriminating against white farmers." He then asks, "Have we suddenly transported into 1956 except it's the other way around? ... Does anybody else have a sense that there are some that just want revenge? Doesn't it feel that way?" After playing the audio of the tape, Beck says, "You tell me what part of the gospel is teaching that."

After Sherrod's resignation,

on his Tues 7/20 TV show, Beck says, "I don't think Shirley should have been fired -- or, I'm sorry, forced to resign. Based on the facts that we have right now, this is something that I wouldn't air and demand a resignation on." He added that he "wouldn't air" the tape because "context matters."

Meanwhile, other Fox players were saying:

O'Reilly: "...simply unacceptable. And Ms. Sherrod must resign immediately."

Hannity: "it's interesting that it took the news media to expose this." He asked Newt Gingrigh if, "in light of the NAACP accusing the Tea Party of being a racist movement last week," he thought "the NAACP should be held to account for the very standard they were demanding from the Tea Party."

Doocy: said Sherrod made "a speech to the NAACP that sure sounded racist." After his guest host asserted that Sherrod's remarks are "outrageous and perhaps everybody needs a refresher course on what racism looks like," Doocy responded that Sherrod's comments are "Exhibit A."

He played part of it, the same part that was released before the entire video was.

Here is my thought on it, shared on another thread.

This story is a perfect example of the importance of "context". I am not a fan of Glenn Beck, but I did watch him last night because I wanted to see what he was going to say about this incident, since Mrs. Sherrod was told when she was asked to resign that she would be talked about on his show.

He defended her and rightfully addressed that President Obama and the NAACP threw her under the bus before either one knew the entire story.

So now that entire story is out, they have had to apologize. This is the not the first time Obama has reacted quickly and spoke before thinking.

Shirley Sherrod Unsure How She'd Be Treated in a Return to USDA

I have to admit it makes me nervous that the media is influencing the President's decisions.

This, more than the convoluted fact that now Glenn Beck can chastise the administration for being hasty, is what bothers me. It's so convoluted that Glenn Beck's ratings go thru the roof because of a blogger's deliberately edited tape pertaining to an incident over twent-five years ago, can get so much traction. Someone has to rise above this bullshoot. I saw the blogger in question on John King at noon today, and he is a hate-monger, no question about it.

Yep you have to wonder what made them react so quickly to the point of asking her to pull off the road and tender her resignation.

Yeah, that was too peculiar. It makes you think that someone was setting up someone. Does this all seem like a setup? Most of Fox is looking pretty bad right now, NAACP is also looking sheepish. The Tea Party has lost points, and, after all the stupidity and apologies, the White House is looking almost like the saviour of all things not-racist.

Meantime, the president signs the biggest overhaul of financial reform in the history of this country, and there's hardly a sound-bite.

Let's not forget the real villains, Breitbart and Fox News. Glenn Beck would have gone the route of hannity, O'reilly, Laura Ingram etc. had he known about the story sooner. Now Fox is accusing the administration of jumping the gun, hypocrites.

It seems with all the cleaning house going on in D.C.(and elsewhere) that there are going to be some mistakes along the way, especially issues that are centuries old.

I was glad to hear an apology was made publicly and it seems good that everyone is discussing the situation.

People involved(2 of them, one being Sherrod) had to live their lives without their Fathers because they had been murdered during the riotous, racist sixties. I grew up with a Father and can't imagine not having had one as a child. In their case, it must have been even more painful knowing their dads were hated enough to be murdered.

This political time bomb has stirred up old civil rights wounds, some of which were never healed, and possibly just now being dealt with on a national level for the first time.

I'm praying for healing in this area specifically for the nation because racism does nothing but promote dissension.

It is ridiculous to judge someone on the basis of skin color, about as ridiculous as judging them according to their hair color. It is so easy to fight and so hard to get along- the easy route is lose-lose, the hard route is win-win. This has to be dealt with so we can move forward and from this as a nation.

What if your thoughts were posted on your forehead for everyone to read. I'm always trying to clean my own house so hatred doesn't hide in the corners of it. Hatred affects the physical body like poison.

......I have to admit it makes me nervous that the media is influencing the President's decisions.

i had that same feeling Minnie when I watched the main stream media influence and "tilt reporting" during the campaign of Obama. And now with the media mob emails coming out from their Journolist it is even scarier.

As an added extra...Dems always seem to be putting down Mr. Beck, the White House ignore his Red phone, but it appears they do listen to him daily...so perhaps Glen is scaring them because he is pointing out truths they don't want out there...

Beck blasts administration for believing Fox News

(Is it just me, or does this seem Alice-in-Wonderland-ish?)

Nope, Mr UgaBuga,
The man is an up front guy no rabbit hole here. If you watched him you would know that. Beck goes where the truth is and then reports it. It doesn't matter what side of the political fence your feet are on, he reports it for what it is. Perhaps that is why the Obama White House must have one of those secret czars, whose's job it is to watch TV, and report back to the WH what new truths Beck has uncovered and will be reporting on his show. Feel pretty sure after the recent WH flip flop, that TV watching czar is going to be out of there applying for uneployment and we can add one more lost job.

Exactly, I wish I could find the video of last night with Anderson Cooper, he was putting the blame on the media for continuously stirring things up.

I am not willing to completely excuse the Obama adminstration though on this one. We all know that the media outlets do this type of crap to get ratings.

What was the reasoning behind the admin on doing it, was it ratings? :idontno:

If the President is getting bad advice from his counsel he better clean house and soon. We have already suffered enough with a President receiving bad counsel.

My exact sentiments. I think he is getting bad advice. I thought that they were saying, at first, that it was all Vilsick's call. Have they changed their stance on that?

I agree with you 100% Minnie, but what also scares me is that the bias plotting media might have played a big part in getting him elected by using planned propaganda attacks.

What about her NCAAP GROUP, her own Boss who has worked with her for years, Her supervisor who knew her well, Even her own President...get real...these folks threw her under the bus because of news fear, and now they are groveling, offering her a special new job, make apoligies on TV, and even giving her a special one on one call from the White House. And you want to put the FULL blame on Breitbart and FOX NEWS. Get Real. DID the media fire her by having her pull off to the side of the road and text her "quitting notice" so it could be in their hands before 5PM (Glenn Time)?
