It seems the President's plan is not as popular as he would like us to believe.

Truth be told- this really just means that lots of folks don't like the part of the healthcare reform that mandates health insurance.

Yep, myself included. What part of the Constitution gives the federal government the right to force citizens to purchase something from private business, and how might this be abused going forward? (IMHO, the Obamacare mandate is a testament to liberals' lack of ability to think long term.)

Testament shestament. This liberal agrees with you that the govt shouldn't be able to require you to purchase health insurance.

I don't necessarily agree that people SHOULD have to purchase health insurance (I go back and forth because they require you purchase CAR insurance and not having health insurance just seems dumb), but how do you propose dealing with all of those who do not have it and are racking up huge bills?

I am tired of paying for/subsidizing those who don't plan ahead and companies edging out others on pricing because they don't care for their workers.

Do think that many actually being ABLE to get it if they want is a big positive step.

Some people I know have pre-existing conditions that preclude them from health insurance, even if they could afford to pay for it.

ObamaCare has saved us a boatload of money until daughter turns 26.

Nobody is required to drive so car insurance is optional.

That is my family's story as well--many $ saved for nephew until he turns 26--thanks Mr Obama!

They'll get the bill for your savings down the road. Money doesn't grow on trees.

According to the United States Constitution's commerce clause, no American can be forced to buy anything.

Also, the car analogy doesn't work because an auto carries potential liability, which is harm to another person and/or their property, or both. Most people finance the car, which can forward the liability to the lender who is only one party requiring proper coverage to protect them. Not all states require auto insurance and some only require liability, not collision and comprehensive.

Why would a 26 year old grown man still need to be on his parent's insurance? Doesn't he have employment? Is he still living at home? Isn't this feature or benefit a way for a young person to not have to be required to have insurance or pay a fine? Wouldn't an additional dependent add to the insurance that the family pays so $$ saved for nephew but parents are still out $$? What if the 26 year old is married would it still apply? Not trying to stir the pot, I really am confused about this part of the health care plan.:idontno:

I don't think the lienholder cares about your liability. They only care if you have collision since the vehicle is collateral in case you don't make the payments.

Right, and they care about their liability since they are on title until the car is completely paid. And, arguably, we are a sue happy society. Insurance in this case has limits and offers protection up to those limits.

Health insurance was previously mandated to allow parents' policies to cover adult children through college years, traditionally to age 22 because in many cases the child remains a dependent. Some states covered to age 25. The Federal plan covers to age 26. So, if there is a pre-ex, the child won't have issues in securing health insurance if they can stay on their parents' policies (who could be covered by a large group plan).....and, the argument is the child's employer will cover them when they become employed.
