Looks like the clever editing work of the same Right wingnut case that cleverly edited Shirley Sherrod's tape to hand over to Glenn Beck. Reagan's time, moment, and effectiveness came and went. Today, the World and the U.S. is in a much better place thanks to President Obama and the Democratic Party.

Some may be persuaded to believe something based on bits & pieces of arguments taken out of context & organized in a way to plead for a particular point of view.

Others may do the hard work of honestly trying to understand the big picture.

Really, I mean, really? Unemployment at 10%, the federal government deep in debt and spending 1.5 trillion per year thanks to Chinese and middle eastern financing? Iran, Israel, and North Korea running amuck on the world stage? Nuclear conflict eminent? A strengthening Russia? A weakened Western Europe? We're better off? Really?

Obama:

Made the stock market go up 40% so that companies would be worth more when the gubment takes it ova.

Captured and killed Taliban and Al-Quaeda members so he can become their leader

Improved school lunch program because well-fed kids are easier to indoctrinate into socialist agenda

Goes out of his way to be personable and attractive so people won't notice his resemblance to Hitler

That was happening WAY before Obama took office. There are people who truly need the help, and there will always be people who take advantage of the system. You are so worried about people getting help, I am just as worried about white collar crime now there is some taking advantage of the system. Or is that not the same?

I find it interesting that people blame Obama for such things. I think it might be a function of "right time right place" several years ago your child was not going to college yet, so you were not paying attention to college scholarships and financial aid. Now that you are, it is oh so easy to put bitter blame on the President. Why does anyone have to be blamed that a deserving child will get to go to college? Ugly and meanspirited.

Is it really the your daughter's friend's fault that her dad is a bum? So she shouldn't go to college? Or is it also possible that your daughter's friend has worked hard and has Bright Futures or other academic scholarships? FYI Bright Futures was available to your daughter too.;-)

I am self employed now for 16 years (still working @ age 57) Just reduced my catostrophic insurance plan (basic hospitalization) thru the new Govt healthcare website-I am now saving $50 per month.

Best of luck to your husband in his educational endeavors!

I find it really interesting that President Obama has singled one family out and taken something from that family..what exactly has he taken?

It may make one feel better to blame others; but, really, there are lots opportunities for financial aid for your child--in fact, there is more now than there was before Obama, thanks to the elimination of the banks from the student loan process.

If you are in the local area either the Northwest Florida College or Gulf Coast Community College can offer any number of scholarships/grants/loans/workstudy job for a deserving student--meaning one who has a need and a willingness to apply for the help.

I work with them every day and believe me the parents and students who apply themselves get lots of help--they do not spend energy blaming the President of the United States for their problems, whatever they are.

The child whose father is behaving as you describe (how do you know this ?) can not be held responsible for what the father chooses to do. Obviously, the student has worked hard to find a way to achieve an education and IMO that is to be commended, not ridiculed.

Whether members of the Republican Party want to admit it or not, the Health Care Reform and the Financial Reforms put into place by this Administration are doing good for many people, and especially many self employed ones and I have been self employed for many years: I raised my son as a self employed single parent and we did just fine. We would have done much better if some of the Obama health insurance options had been available. The benefit from these programs comes to everyone--the laws were not written to only help those who voted for Obama!

I do not understand how people who claim to want everyone to be responsible for themselves, find it so easy to believe that just because one person has something, it is automatic that something has been taken [/B]from another.

I bet your child will find a way to get an education if she has that as her dream...and hopefully others will be lifted up by the example of a student working hard to acheive...who knows, your student might even find it rewarding and satisfying enough to want to to give something back someday. We all need uplifting in these difficult times--perhaps you can rethink your approach and find something positive to put energy into...

It will be interesting when all of the self-employed people 'helped' by health care reform fully understand the new reporting laws and the workload that will cause them and the penalties it will expose them to.

If you are a self-employed or small-business person and you buy more than $600 worth of product (not services, but product) for your business from any supplier, you will have to 1099 that supplier. In other words, if you are a plumber living in Santa Rosa Beach and you buy more than $600 worth of gas from the local Tom Thumb, you will have to get their taxpayer ID and you will have to 1099 them. You will face a penalty if you fail to do this or if you do it late. You also had better keep up with how much you spend at Frank's and Publix, etc... during the year as well because the same rules apply.

Yes, I can see how this will make things much better for self-employed folks and small businesses.

At least they have the financial reforms to help them. Of course, none of those bailout billions were set aside to help small businesses and self-employed people and the banks used none of what they got to help with credit in the small business world either.

What does reporting purchases on a 1099 have to do with health insurance costs? As I understand it, this was an attempt to be sure that businesses reported income and find some revenue to pay for some of the insurance reform; if it is as onerous as some believe, then, it should be repealed. Call your Congressman or Senator and express your opinion...don't throw the entire program out, because one piece of it is poorly defined.

That was a part of the bill (wait, you mean you didn't read it?)

This so-called Health Care 'Reform' put the IRS in charge of enforcement and that is one of the major tax reporting changes in the bill.

For those who don't deign to read the bill (don't feel bad, no legislator or aide read it either) there are plenty of summaries. Here's an article from CNN called Health care law's massive, hidden tax change:

An all-but-overlooked provision of the health reform law is threatening to swamp U.S. businesses with a flood of new tax paperwork.

Section 9006 of the health care bill -- just a few lines buried in the 2,409-page document -- mandates that beginning in 2012 all companies will have to issue 1099 tax forms not just to contract workers but to any individual or corporation from which they buy more than $600 in goods or services in a tax year.

The stealth change radically alters the nature of 1099s and means businesses will have to issue millions of new tax documents each year.

Don't you feel healthier already?

Really? I don't believe healthcare.gov lists providers. So I'm curious how it helped you find a new one. For that matter, why didn't you do this in the past?

Note, with the exception of a new government funded high risk pool and some minor regulation, Obamacare hasn't taken effect yet.

This will end-up pushing many small businesses towards shutting their doors. The costs of compliance and the fines for non-compliance will be too much for them to justify continuing on.

This is just more evidence of the deep seated disdain with which this Congress and the Obama Administration view small businesses.

Simple economics, unless you are producing something new, someone must pay for what you get. And if one person is getting it for free, it follows that someone else is paying, either voluntary (tuiton) or involuntary (taxes.)

IRS Requests Public Input on Expanded Information Reporting Requirement

IR-2010-79, July 1, 2010

WASHINGTON ? The Internal Revenue Service today invited public comment on how to most effectively carry out a law change that, starting in 2012, will require businesses to report a wider range of payments to contractors, vendors and others, usually on Form 1099. These comments will help the IRS issue guidance that implements this provision in a manner that minimizes burden and avoids duplicate reporting.

Under a proposed regulation, many business purchases made with credit or debit cards would be exempt from the new reporting requirement because they are already reported by banks and other payment processors. The IRS seeks comments on additional circumstances in which duplicate reporting might otherwise occur and on rules that would prevent such duplicate reporting.

The change, enacted in March but not effective until 2012, expanded existing reporting requirements to include a business?s payments related to goods and other property, and payments to most corporations. With some exceptions, payments to corporations are currently exempt from this requirement.

There are three ways to submit comments.E-mail to:

  • Notice.Comments@irscounsel.treas.gov. Include ?Notice 2010-51" in the subject line.
  • Mail to: Internal Revenue Service, CC:PA:LPD:PR ( Notice 2010-51), Room 5203, P.O. Box 7604, Ben Franklin Station, Washington, DC 20044.
  • Hand deliver to: CC:PA:LPD:PR ( Notice 2010-51), Courier?s Desk, Internal Revenue Service, 1111 Constitution Avenue NW, Washington, DC, between 8 a.m. and 4 p.m., Monday through Friday.

The deadline is Sept. 29, 2010. Further details are in Notice 2010-51, posted today on IRS.gov.

What a crock - it's a minor issue that anyone doing a decent job of accounting can easily handle.

If you aren't able to easily determine that you are paying certain vendors more than $600 and print a 1099, Obama is not the reason your small business is in trouble.

That's not entirely true, Scooty. If you are a new business starting out, even if you offer a lower price on certain items, other companies are already thinking about narrowing down the amount of vendors they will do business which will result in more national vendors and less smaller businesses. Small businesses are the crux of our Countries domestic gross product. It's also where the most innovation stems from, the hungry entrepreneur.

In my opinion, this is a well orchestrated present to the Banks because credit card transactions will be exempt from the reporting requirements. Most small businesses write checks to their vendors to avoid the credit card fees, but there will be some that will be using their corporate cards more frequently for certain purchases.

It will be a logistical nightmare and I can not possibly see how this is going to narrow the reporting gap. If a business is not reporting some of their sales, they are getting cash. How is this going to help?

Trust me, the Banks are all over this like white on rice.
