All this talk about the mosque reminds me of two things I heard growing up in Nebraska.

I had a 6th grade teacher who referred to American Indians as ?sneaky redskins? and our enemies in the Pacific as ?dirty Japs.? This abated somewhat after I asked one day in class, ?Mrs. G., do you think our parents would like to know that you teach race prejudice?? She faded three shades.

The rest of that year was difficult.

So I need to share this swingers story:

I was in my 20's living in Southern CA with 3 of my fraternity brothers. We were totally broke but had fun all the time.

One Friday morning my cousin from Chicago calls me out of the blue and says- Hey, I'm getting ready to get on a plane with 3 girlfriends. We're heading to Vegas for the weekend. Meet us. She even offered to let us crash on her hotel room floor at the Tropicana.

So we excitedly dropped everything and made the drive over to Vegas from SoCal. We arrived at the Tropicana only to discover that the girls have been delayed. While we hung around trying to figure out what to do someone from the hotel staff approached us and was kind enough to give us some free passes to Wet N Wild - a big waterslide theme park. So off we went.

Upon admittance to the waterslide park we were given wristbands that had a very unique color and we were told we needed to keep them on at all times (which we did). In fact, for whatever reason we kept them on even after we left Wet N Wild.

So we get back to the Tropicana wearing our Wet N Wild wristbands and folks in the lobby directed us to the pool area. We didn't ask questions when we saw some very good looking older ladies in their swimsuits wearing similar wristbands and heading to the pool. We just followed.

So- um. Long story short (and I am not making any of this up). There was an actual Swingers Convention at the Tropicana. They bought out the entire back of the pool area and the only way to get into that area and the rest of their events was to have a special wristband- which much to our delight were nearly identical to our Wet N Wild wristbands.

Holy holy holy cow. For two days we saw and were a part of a world we thought only existed in works of fiction. All thx to those wristbands!!!
