Petraeus Condemns U.S. Church's Plan to Burn Qurans - WSJ.com

KABUL?The top U.S. commander in Afghanistan said the planned burning of Qurans on Sept. 11 by a Florida church could put the lives of American troops in danger and damage the war effort.
Gen. David Petraeus said the Taliban would exploit the demonstration for propaganda purposes, drumming up anger toward the U.S.

"It is precisely the kind of action the Taliban uses and could cause significant problems. Not just here, but everywhere in the world we are engaged with the Islamic community."

I suppose to some having a president who actually believes in diplomacy instead of war mongering rhetoric would be a hard pill to swallow. I guess he missed those required John Wayne movies while attending political science classes in college.

No I fear he lacks real world experience. You can't learn this through books. For being such an educated man he's misfiring on all pistons. I guess I would give him more credit if he could talk without telepromters at elementary schools.

I really don't think Putin or Ahmadinejad give a crap where Obama went to school. Do you?

Thought provoking article from a true infidel.

Sunday Sacrilege: Respect is not the same as obedience : Pharyngula

I definitely agree that there's a control issue here.
It's more like U.S. government/foreign religion psychological warfare. I say foreign cause I don't think any of the founding fathers were muslim.
What the hell is the U.S. doing bowing down in fear to support a comment from this Imam saying that if a mosque is not built near ground zero that we should be afraid of what the "radicals" would do, that our national security would be at risk?
Just like you said before, that is a veiled threat.
That pissed me off.
Hell no.
I didn't have a major problem with them building a mosque there in the beginning, but now that they are talking, the comments out of their mouths are making me suspicious of what is going on. Why all this pussyfooting around from the government when this Imam is trying to use psychological control to get his way.
My radar is up on this issue at this point. I've seen these type tactics before- wake up people- a snake is in the camp. The door for me to agree with a mosque in this area is closing quickly. I would love to be wrong about this, but cannot ignore what he is saying.
I get the feeling of someone coming to burn my house down, then when I get another one built, they want to move into that one with me and not only that, but to bring their friends to stay there too, and not only that, but to move me out.
If I harbored prejudice, I would question my motives, but I am just going by what he himself said.

FOXNews.com - Assailants stab, beat Christian worshippers outside of Indonesia's capital
test=latestnews

Leading the charge against the Batak Christians has been the Islamic Defenders Front, which is pushing for the implementation of Islamic-based laws in Bekasi and other parts of the nation.

They are known for smashing bars, attacking transvestites and going after those considered blasphemous with bamboo clubs and stones. Perpetrators are rarely punished or even questioned by police.

The front also pressured local authorities early this year to shutter the Batak church, located in a densley populated Mulsim area, saying the permit was granted without the required approval of residents.

The Christian worshippers have refused to back down. Every week, about 20 or so return to the field to pray, defying threats and intimidation.

I think there is always going to be religious extremists, if that is who actually committed the crime, but the question is, are we going to look at these crimes from a perspective of religious beliefs or crimes against humanity. If we look at them through the eyes of religion, anything can be taken out of context to prove a point; it must be done through the eyes of human rights. This to me is one of the reasons for separation of church and state. Whoever did this acted outside of the right of humans to live in peace and safety, this is never acceptable.

Just like Sandra Bullock says in Miss Congeniality: It's all about world peace. 😀

World peace can only be accomplished through the mutual respect of individuals rights even in light of vast disagreements. How disagreements are handled is key. Violence causes more violence through revenge, but laws that are just and not twisted even like someone's religious beliefs, can settle a matter. I think where injustice has entered through the law is when people use it to their own advantage to further their own agenda. There must be integrity in those that administer judgment in a court of law and in those that enforce it or they might as well just wear a swastika.

Unfortunately once these people are indoctrinated, it may be too late. It starts when they're young. It could probably just as easily have been prevented if they had the right upbringing, but changing a whole culture like that is like moving a mountain.

I think it was delayed. Congrats on the avoidance of media. I'm a little jealous.

I wonder how many millions of $ the media have made off of this story and the WTC 'mosque' story. How much more money do they need to make before they abandon it?

Isn't it time to move on?

Thank you!! I am turning on the boob tube less and less and when I do have it on, it's on something stupid just for fodder. I am going to make more of a concerted effort everyday to not use TV and computer. We'll see how that fares. ;-)

I wonder about the money as well - pity, isn't it?

Congrats - as a football player you had one of the higher statistical probabilities of being gay - higher than gymnasts and cheerleaders. ;-)

Yes! Let's elevate America's adversaries. Way to go! A little advice though. Before you start complaining about telepromters [sic], get yourself a spell checker.
