Me too BR. I've told my husband I'd move anywhere with him as long as it's south of the MD line.

It took a minimum of 6" of snow or a windchill of 80 below before they would CONSIDER canceling school.

Last Thanksgiving I went to a football game and it warmed up to 21 degrees and snowing. The trick is to hold the cold beer w/ mittens and the hot cocoa w/ bare hands. ;-)

Noone asks why I moved here during winter, just during the summer. :D

When hubby proposed to me, I took a map of the U.S., got out my compass, and drew a 200-mile radius around Atlanta. I said I'd marry him if he promised me we'd live within that circle. I made exceptions for NOLA because we were undergrads at Tulane at that time and then when we decided to go to UF for grad school (best decision we ever made).

Then in the late 90's he was offered a job as the president of a major corporation. We would have been living in London. I didn't think I could deal with the dreary and cold weather in London, plus our two poodles would have to be in isolation for 6 months. Our vet said that the stress would kill them at their age. Also I would have had to give up my full professorship, position as department chair, and tenure that I had worked so hard to achieve. So we turned down the opportunity. In retrospect, it was a huge mistake because one poodle lived two more years and the other lived three more years. We could have been rolling in money if he had taken that job.

Cold weather sounds good to me in that context.

I have been shopping like mad. Shopping for myself I will admit is funn, but shopping for the kids is stressful, with the assorted fall clothes and deep winter clothes and hats and gloves etc. What is intimidating is the need to have the windbreaker, the raincoat, the fall jacket, the late fall jacket, the WTH-did-I-get-into winter coat, all the cardigans, scarves, boots and OH! The fleece. Can't forget the fleece.

And long underwear. Flannel jammies and sheets. A snowblower.

As I said, help.

Smartwool socks are the key - they are wool socks that don't itch and they come in all sorts of crazy colors and thicknesses. If your feet are warm, the rest of you will be warm.

You get the thick ones for wearing outdoors/sports and the thin ones to wear inside with dress shoes.

yes, you have much to do. what a change in lifestyle. but I bet its going to be really wonderful, even in the cold! I would love to do it myself, even for just a little while.

you are so right about the feet! cold feet = cold everything.

I would definitely get into boots, scarves and funky warm hats!
