I thought this was a well thought out op ed piece written by a "regular" person, not a journalist or reporter.
Bumper-sticker slogans reveal cultural divisions - VIEWPOINT - The News Herald
Do the pastors of Christian churches in our area approve of the kind of rhetoric coming from the haters of diversity that express their anger in the comments? If you are a pastor or a priest, I am pleading for you to spend some time reading these comments. I am hopeful that you might find a reason to craft some sermons to quell zealotry and the self-righteous rage that people in a fit of religiosity are directing at anyone whom they consider an outsider to their tribe.

I find it distressing how many people are so adamantly opposed to President Obama...I was opposed to many things that President Bush did, especially the Iraq war and the Patriot Act, and the torture...but I never found it necessary to make my opposition so personal as so many do with President Obama.

It is a sad statement on our society right now IMO and a very dangerous example for our children of all races and faiths.

It's unfortunate when it gets personal. I'm not a fan of this either. What people are really dissatisfied with is policy. The emotional responses tend to show up when people are stressed. 9/11, the wars, and the recession all trigger this.

Obama is just a politician who promotes certain policies. He was elected by a wide majority. The democrats were given wide majorities in congress via the 2006 and 2008 elections. If people are dissatisfied with what they've done with that power, they can undo it. But there's no need to attack these people on a personal level or inject religion into the discussion.

People who are against the policies of politicians in power should take the high road rather than step down into the muck. "He did it first" isn't the adult response.

Perhaps you might share these views with our President and his Government Folks. To me to put down, insult, and blame a fellow president over and over and over isn't very classy or very presidential..so perhaps Obama's own behavior has opened up these very negative putdowns, etc.

SoWal stickers don't hurt a thing. Most I see are on glass anyhow.

The only thing crass bumper stickers or t-shirt slogans tell me are that the person sporting them had bad parents or genetic defects.

Parents can't be blamed for everything...Kurt! And a genetic defect comment seems rather low...usually a bumper sticker or a Tshirt is a person expression their right to free speech...be it postive or negative...don't think his parents or his DNA makeup or lack of any genes has anything to do with it.
