That was not a very good debate. A lot of sniping and cheap shots and very little actual discussion of how we get Florida on the right fiscal track. Neither candidate came across as professional or capable. Pretty sad.

Alex Sink fired an aide over trying to coach her on an issue which was against the debate rules. It is going to be interesting to see how this state is run in the future regardless of who wins.

While I normally like it when a debate is structured to be more than a series of 30 second sound bites, that was utterly useless, and the moderators did nothing to moderate the mess.

Alex Sink caught on tape cheating in last night's debate

Yes, but she fired the staffer who she blamed for breaking the rules of the debate.

In all fairness, it wasn't her that caused the problem, it was an aide. Although maybe she should have had her blackberry, phone, whatever, turned off. Not the brightest move for someone running for governor as far as debate details are concerned.

It's really not big news. They could have been looking at her schedule, or an email concerning something else. Even if was notes, she couldn't have learned too much from that quick look.
It isn't enough to pull my vote one way or another. I don't like either of these candidates based on their former jobs -- Nations Bank president for Florida or Insurance giant CEO.

Yeah, I agree. Neither of them are coming across as what I'd like to see as Governor. I was fairly neutral about Christ, but he sure was better than these two.

One or the other might be like Chris Cristy who has, and rightly so, shaken N.J. to its core.

Too bad they both can't lose. I don't like either of them.
Rick Scott looks like a deer in the headlights....or .... a crack head. I can't decide which. And I don't know what it is about Alex Sink...I just plain don't care for her. I think both are probably crooks and in someone's pocket either way.

What exactly happened? It looks like she is looking at a phone while lots of people are milling about. :idontno:

One of her aides sent her a text, during a break in the debate, which was against the rules. The aide was fired.

Actually the aide that was fired sent a text to Alex Sink's makeup person which she refused to read.

I found the moderation completely annoying- it seemed like they were the ones debating with Sink and Scott! I had to keep walking away. They seemed to be igniting the bickering. Hopefully CNN won't choose them again.

Am I the only one that sees Satan's face in the 'O' just under Rick Scott's wrist?

It's scary sometimes that you vote.
Sink was the head of the Florida division of Bank of America.
Scott was CEO of Health South Rehab which was not an insurance company. Even if you were referring to his latest scam it was walk-in clinics not insurance. He defrauded insurance and Medicare, but he never ran an insurance company.

It was awful.

"What happened was... last night the makeup artist held up her phone and said: 'I just got this message. I don't know who it's from.' I looked at it because, you know, I'm a mom.
No matter who wins, Sink deserves an award for "best political spin" of the race! 😀

I thought he was head of Columbia HCA which is a group of hospitals. I remember seeing him interviewed on Lou Dobbs Moneyline the day before he was ousted. I would love if somebody could find that clip. He appeared slimier then than now.

Can a moderator merge this in with "Scott v Sink debate"? They're the same thread.

It was an honest goof by someone, other than Alex Sink, and it didn't cost the taxpayers $1.5 billion dollars in Medicare fraud.

Versus the ~18 billion in losses to the state's public service employee pension fund, under the watchful eye of Alex Sink, Charlie Crist, and Bill McCollum. We're trading worse for better if we get Scott, as far as the numbers go, IMHO.
Beach Fanatic
In terms of pension plan losses, not many states were doing much better over the time period, and we're still in better shape there than a lot of other states. (and better than a lot of Florida government units who go at it alone instead of buying into FRS)

I'd like to see some stats on that.
Sink also approved our federal unemployment insurance loans totally around 2 billion. Interest on those loans kicks in in January.
