Is the left ready to take up arms against us?

We are here because the U.S. is going to end soon. There?s going to be an intense, violent, probably haphazard struggle for control. It?s going to come down to us versus them. The question is: What are you going to do about it??

Christian fundamentalists, the millennial end-of-the worlders obsessed with the Left Behind series about the End Times, neo-Nazi racists, rural black-helicopter Michigan Militia types cut from the same inbred cloth as Timothy McVeigh, allied with ?mainstream? gun nuts and right-wing Republicans, have been planning, preparing, and praying for the destruction of the ?Godless,? ?secular? United States for decades. In the past, they formed groups like the John Birch Society and the Aryan Nations. Now the hard Right has a postmodern, decentralized non-organization organization called the Tea Party.

Right-wing organizational names change, but they amount to the same thing: the reactionary sociopolitical force?the sole force?poised to fill the vacuum when collapse occurs. The scenario outlined by Margaret Atwood?s prescient novel The Handmaid?s Tale?rednecks in the trenches, hard military men running things, minorities and liberals taken away and massacred, setting the stage for an even more extreme form of laissez-faire corporate capitalism than we?re suffering under today?is a fair guess of how a post-U.S. scenario will play out unless we prepare to turn it in another direction?

A war is coming. At stake: our lives, the planet, freedom, living. The government, the corporations, and the extreme right are prepared to coalesce into an Axis of Evil. Are you going to fight back? Will you do whatever it takes, including taking up arms??

The millions of partisans who follow Fox News, Rush Limbaugh, and right-wing televangelists happen to be the best-armed people around, and they despise just about everyone who doesn?t think and pray like them. They will see collapse as affirmation of their beliefs that secular liberalism is destructive. They will also see it as an opportunity to create a new, ordered world atop the ashes. They will act to stop teenage sluts from getting abortions, teach ******s a lesson, and slaughter those spics, dots, and everyone else who doesn?t fit into their vision of what and who is right?

I want to kick people in the ass. To get them thinking. To get you thinking. I want you to understand the situation?your situation. I want you to see that revolt is a good idea, and that it has never been more necessary. I also want you to size up the opposition (both the government and the extreme right): They will never get weaker. We have as good a chance at taking them on as ever.

- excerpt from Ted Rall's new book, The Anti-American Manifesto

So lefties, are you ready to kick some right wing, Tea Party butts? Ted wants you to take up arms and fight us. Are you prepared to do that?

I'm not going to physically fight you*, I'm going to outsmart you! 😀

The "ideals" espoused here are the global business equivalent of shooting oneself in the foot.

Racists and fundamentalist Christians tend to do quite poorly in the international marketplace. ;-)

And for those who think more "laissez faire" is needed, I have a Gulf full of oil, millions of salmonella tainted eggs, nasty ground beef, children's products full of plastic ingredients that screw up their minds and reproductive systems, and some runaway car accelerators you should enjoy.

*I'd win because your ideas about liberals are as stupid and misguided as all the others.

I wouldn't be just a civil war. It would be a global catastrophe. Get a life.

Never heard of the author and assume your post is a joke. It looks like something stuck to the bottom of my shoe. I think discussion of political extremes is interesting but maybe we can find a better way to start the conversation without fostering the extreme view. Let's raise the bar.

NEW: The Anti-American Manifesto (2010) | Ted Rall's Rallblog

In arguably the most radical book published in decades, cartoonist/columnist Ted Rall has produced the book he was always meant to write: a new manifesto for an America heading toward economic and political collapse. While others mourn the damage to the postmodern American capitalist system created by the recent global economic collapse, Rall sees an opportunity. As millions of people lose their jobs and their homes, they and millions more are opening their minds to the possibility of creating a radically different form of government and economic infrastructure. But there are dangers. As in Russia in 1991, criminals and right-wing extremists are best prepared to fill the power vacuum from a collapsing United States. The best way to stop them, Rall argues, is not collapse?but revolution. Not by other people, but by us. Not in the future, but now. While it?s still possible.

You do realize 30ashopper that by lumping us in with this guy we have every right to lump you in Nazi's, Klan members, and any other group that seems to share some or all of your values.

He lumped himself in with those people in the thread title. He said "against us"

I've been lumped in with the groups (tea partiers, right wing extremists, etc.) Rall considers the enemy quite often in these threads.

I think it's quite fascinating how he sees the country, and to be perfectly honest, his characterizations of tea parties aren't far off from numerous characterizations posted in these forums over the last year by some. Which makes me wonder if his views are shared by some here.

Regardless, maybe a smiley face would have better punctuated commentary.

Boy, did I mis-read the original post or am I just unrecognizing of what was really intended. My first thought was 30ashopper is playing with our friends on the left. My second thought was some are actually taking him and this Ted guy seriously. Which is right or are both correct?

Yeah, but the guy he shot in the face apologized to him for getting his face in the way so it all evens out:shock:

Actually, I've often wondered why more dems don't embrace the right to bear arms more often. Even though I'm an indy and believe in public ed and that health care at an affordable price should be the norm, you'll pry my gun out of my cold, dead hands. After you've taken my chocolate, of course.😀

Didn't the NRA recently drop a load of cash on the dems?

I think most Dems (and many Republicans too) are happy with the guns they have/can legally obtain and don't think an AK-47 or bazooka are necessary items.

I worry much less about the improbable scenario of the government taking away all guns then I do about the real danger of crazy folks and homegrown terrorists being able to easily slaughter many people.

The Founding Fathers and early Americans had many rules about who could and could not have guns* - so I don't find it a betrayal of our history to legally bar wack-a-doos and convicted felons from owning them or show a modicum of common sense about it.

*Basically only white protestant males who owned property

This slogan keeps running thru my brain: "I disagree with you, but I'm pretty sure you're not Hilter." Can I just stay with that or do I have to "keep fear alive"?

Any extreme Right wing group that decides to name themselves Tea Partiers in the first place cannot inspire that much fear on the Left. Now, if they change their name to Tea Party Nazi's, I actually may need to, as Sarah Palin put it, "reload."

Fortunately, it hasn't come to that.....yet.

Why bother, thanks to the right wings interpretation of the 2nd Amendment I can go out and buy something capable of firing more bullets in a second that you could load into a rifle in a day.

So the beach permit rules stem from colonial days?
