I read the article and didn't note that Wikileaks had revealed any new and/or concrete evidence regarding the issue. :idontno:

It was common knowledge that Saddam had chemical weapons (which he used on his own countrymen) and continued to experiment.

The only bit I was unaware of was the Syria site (quickly destroyed by Israel) and invading Iraq wouldn't address that.

I was wondering the same thing SB44. I didn't see any links to Wikileaks material. I did see a tile ad for Ann Coulter, and for the record I am neither a fan or enemy of our previous president nor the current one.

I did find this article from October quoting some of the same info on CBS news

This article in no way convinces me that Bush's decision to embark on a costly nation-building clusterpuck was a good one.

Good points. I wasn't aware of the 500 tons of Yellow Cake that was secretly exported by the US out of Iraq.

The only "secret part" involved the US brokering the sale between the Iraqi government and a Canadian energy company and then making sure the it was transferred without incident.

We knew Saddam had it and where it was. UN inspectors did too.

And as soon as the transport was completed, the removal was an AP wire story widely reported.

Then maybe you should have made the above statement when you posted a link with no intro. State your opinion on the piece, please, when you post it.

God forgive me for wading into this thread, but Andrew, I guess you are citing this paragraph:

Five years after Joe Wilson?s op-ed claimed no yellowcake was sold to Iraq ? the ease with which Saddam could have snapped his fingers and reinstituted his nuclear program became apparent. In July 2008, in an operation kept secret at the time, 37 military air cargo flights shipped more than 500 metric tons of yellowcake ? found in Iraq ? out of the country for further transport and remediation to Canada.

I'm calling BS that all this spongecake was sitting somewhere ready for use as is implied in the article. More likely it was scattered all around the country goodness knows where. It did take six years to round it up for export to Canada, after all. Furthermore, I don't see a 'leak' that cites the transport...I have seen lots of wikileak citations that are direct quotes, but the guy who penned this piece isn't clear regarding his source about the airlift to Canada....

If it sounds too good to be true, it probably is.

On a hunch, I figured if MSNBC felt obligated to report on it they would give it the worst time slot. Sure enough, this was released on a Saturday night at 7pm. That explains why I didn't see it.

Does everything have to be about bias and agendas? Maybe they released it then because that's when they got the info FROM THE AP.

Saturday night may be a slow news time, but anything posted then is typically still there and in the news Monday morning.

My point was that it was widely reported on at the time - no Wiki needed because it wasn't secret. You may not have known about it, but it was an AP story and a multi-page feature on MSNBC.

I think the wikileaks info disclosed the fact that it could be used had Saddam wanted to use it. The accusation by Bush in his state of the union was that Saddam was acquiring Yellow Cake to further his Nuclear Ambitions. I wish the writer provided more details specifically to the wikileak revelations here. Perhaps we will learn more in the coming days.

Are you saying you think this was a US conspiracy to help justify the war?

This is an Associated Press story; datelined by the wire service; has nothing to do with MSNBC, except their reporters pulled it from the AP.

Yes, Saddam had yellow cake (basically raw uranium that looks like cornmeal - hence the name) but it wasn't a secret and he didn't have the advanced technology to DO anything with it.

A middle school science class can extract yellow cake. It's made in every country that mines uranium and is a low grade material.

You are making too much of this - yellow cake is not the same as enriched uranium or weapons grade material.

I don't think there was a conspiracy by the American left or right, I'm just saying that a comprehensive justification for us going over there will most likely not be found on a wikileak blurb.

uh oh, someone took down the wikileaks site.

since I know nothing about yellow cake, except the kind I like to eat, I googled, "yellow cake iraq" and quickly found a snopes article on it. >>> link to snopes article.

It is an interesting and quick explanation of the order of things. (I like snopes.com -- don't know how accurate it is, but it always has those chain email letters in there.)

In what time slot did Fox run the story?:idontno:
