Crazy weather!

It is so windy at the beach that it feels as if the house is going to blow away. It is almost 60 degrees, but feels cold due to the wind. Crazy!

Also crazy ... snow and ice coming to GA. Until January 2010 it was so warm in GA that I didn't need a coat. Last January and this January have been totally different.

EDIT: Hey GTTBM, the Weather Channel just reported that somebody in Snellville tweeted them and said that the grocery stores there are packed with people stocking up for the storm.

Global warming? I think not. It's back to cold winters.

Yes BR the stores were a hot mess yesterday. I did pick up a few things. But I parked a couple of stores down walked in snagged what I needed and was in and out in no time. Someone has now remembered something he wants but forgot so I'm about to be in the mix again! Filling up my trucklette and our gas can for the generator is also on my list this a.m. Snow is fine. The ice they are predicting sucks! Our SIL is coming over to help me get everything ready just in case, since FBB is still not 100%.
So I have chocolate, beer, and pretzles I'm as ready as possible!

We don't have a generator. I guess if we lose power, we'll sit in front of the gas fireplace.

Glad you have the food essentials!

I'm waiting for the snow!!! It's currently raining and 37 degrees in the Big "D". I am making a huge pot of tortilla soup today. I have beer and wine. A good day to watch some football! 😀

LOL I was on a quest for a bag of Ice Melt this morning. All the Home Depots, Lowe's, and WalMarts were completely sold out. I swung by the Ace Hardware and they had a truck that had just rolled in with a shipment. I stood in line for almost an hour, but I did score 80lbs of the stuff! I'm thinking of "scalping" off 40 lbs of it!

On the other hand if this event would like to bypass us all together, I'd be totally fine with that.

LOL!!!! "scalping" Ice Melt!!!! Chris just stepped outside and he said it is already slick on our sidewalks. If I lived near you, I would take it off your hands!! He is about to venture out to pick up both of our girls who spent the night with friends last night. He has 4 wheel drive!

Oh well, my theory if we are prepared the weather will stay away has failed. We have about 6.5 to 7 inches of snow. Now the nasty sleet and the really ugly freezing rain is upon us. I may get to use that coveted ice melt that I stood in line for so long yesterday after all. Glad our generator works! I think we're gonna need it!

Wow, that's a lot of snow. I just hope we don't lose power. We couldn't buy wine yesterday at the store (Georgia ... :roll🙂, and now due to icing we can't get out of our driveway to get some. 😱 Think I can call 911 and get them to pick some up for us? This is an emergency for us!

Can't believe it sleeted in SoWal!

Oh no BR! I'm going to have to give you a failing grade on your planning skills! Bet that won't happen again. 🙂. Our snow came fast and furious! I let my dogs out a little past 9 last night, no snow in sight. Let them in and puttered in the kitchen for about 10 minutes. Looked on the deck from the kitchen window and it was a total whiteout. Ground was completely covered. The flakes were huge! Really pretty coming down.

It snowed here Friday and I had to go out and clear the driveways twice but since then, just bitter cold. We are supposed to get blasted tomorrow afternoon and Wednesday.

Crazy:
  • It's snowing now!
  • Georgia Tech has been closed two days in a row. When was the last time that happened?:idontno:
  • A meteorologist on an Atlanta TV station predicts that the public schools there will be closed for two more days due to the temps being too low for the ice to melt.
  • Interstate highways in Atlanta are closed in places.
  • People are stuck at the ATL airport, including one woman whose car is parked at the airport but she can't get out of the parking garage due to the ice.
  • People are stranded at the Greyhound station which is out of food.
  • You can actually skate on Peachtree. Peachtree St. Ice Rink in Midtown on Vimeo

2 days closed due to 6 or 7 inches of snow and some ice??? Wow, Southerners are really amateurs when it comes to snow, huh?

One of my besties just moved to Atlanta and she is banging her head against the wall because nothing has even been plowed.

Going to get pounded again with now 14 inches. Frig is stocked, no ice pellets (we are used to walking or skating around) we just leave about an inch of snow to walk on.

GT will be closed again tomorrow.

According to ATL TV stations, the problem is that there are only 20 snow plows available in ATL! I-285 alone is 64 miles long. Just not enough equipment. This type of event is very unusual. Most winters I don't even need to wear a coat. Apparently today they brought in 40 more snow plows from somewhere else. The state only has a $10M budget for snow removal. This is costing them $2M a day. This event plus the Christmas snow event is gonna blow that budget.

It's easy to walk on snow, but ice is a different story. Our daughter needed meds, and she and her husband managed to walk to a pharmacy to pick them up. But she said it was so slippery that they were relieved when they got home with no falls.

Good news is that their fridge is stocked as well.

Stay warm up in NY, gull!

It's impossible to have fleets of snow and ice removal when it's a once or twice a decade occurrence. Besides we Southereners prefer our ice in the beverages of our choice in the heat of the summer. ;-)

:drink2: (just messing with "y'all"- stay safe)

That's what my BIL told me, about not having enough snow plows. Don't y'all get snow up in the mountains, though?

This is turning out to be a hellava winter. My snowman wants a snuggie.

I dunno about the mountains. I focus on ATL to SoWal.

The mountains do tend to get more snow, but I'm not sure how they are equipped. Our issue is ice. Our roads tend to get a glaze and then refreeze overnight. Oddly enough, the majority of motorist they interview that have "crashed" are new transplants from the north! lol

Scooterbug, Colbert was right on. We just surmise that Northerners are aggressive because it's so dam@ cold in the North! lol

By next week it'll be 71 and sunny and our snow plow, play sand, and ice cream salt can be stored until the next decade. :-D

Exactly. And Vance Smith whom we know well (kids went to school together and in the same country club) who is a GA rep and GA DOT commissioner was on TV today saying that he is fine with what DOT is doing with the roads ...

Vance, I think I need to give you a phone call, sweetie. Georgia Tech closed down for 3 days? No buses? People stranded at airports? Banks closed? Doctors offices closed? No excuse.

EDIT: 49 of 50 states have snow on the ground today. Which state is missing? According to the news, Florida.

There were still icy roads yesterday in Midtown. Near major hospitals, like on the ramp to Emory Midtown Hospital.

Here's a very funny video from a frustrated Atlanta citizen recorded on 1/14 (it says 1/11, but that's a typo). She lives across the street from The Prado at Roswell Road at 285. YouTube - Atlanta Weather Update for Jan. 11, 2011

"I ain't going nowhere till Easter! Quit inviting me to stuff!"

I especially love the rant about people complaining about the schools being open on MLK day. (around 3:30)

Papa Scooterbug is laughing his arse off about some idiot in Atlanta who spun their wheels so much they started them on fire!

Scooterbug, it wasn't just the tires! The whole freaking' car burned up! I personally think the guy deserves a nomination for the Darwin award.
