YouTube - What Happened to the Antiwar Movement?
Interesting, the anti-war left embraces the [strike]Bush[/strike] Obama doctrine.

I wish Obama would have pulled out of Afghanistan. But instead he did exactly what he said he was going to do prior to getting elected. He pulled troops out of Iraq and escalated the fight in Afghanistan.
My favorite talking point in this thread is when someone said the world respected Bush unlike Obama.

Our troops weren't pulled out of Iraq. They have simply been given new titles. I still have family serving there. Do you really think our boys are out or are you saying he just reduced the numbers some and shifted them to Afghanistan?
You do know our troops are still getting killed there right?
As far as respect around the World here's an article out yesterday
Obama will go down in history as the president who lost Egypt - Haaretz Daily Newspaper | Israel News
Comparing Obama to Carter
"The superficial circumstances are similar. In both cases, a United States in financial crisis and after failed wars loses global influence under a leftist president whose good intentions are interpreted abroad as expressions of weakness. The results are reflected in the fall of regimes that were dependent on their relationship with Washington for survival, or in a change in their orientation, as with Ankara."
Cal Thomas - Obama being seen as weak on the international stage
"Terrorists in waiting mostly remained in the shadows during the Bush administration but now think they can meet openly to plot the downfall of the United States."
"There is nothing worse for the world than to have a president of the United States who is perceived as weak. Weakness can result in the deaths of innocent people, a wrecked economy and new attacks on American allies and interests around the world. This perception of weakness may be contributing to the drop in Obama's approval ratings."
The Telegraph
The UN loves Barack Obama because he is weak - Telegraph
Throw in his capitulation on START to the Russians, his failed G8 Summit, his bowing, apologizing to everyone and soon the attempt at good will has the opposite result. No laughing matter imo.

Cite all the op ed pieces you want. But if you believe Bush is more respected around the world than Obama then I have some property for you to buy in South Walton.
Disagree with Obama's policy. Dislike the guy. But seriously dude- you sound silly when you cite a lack of intelligence or respect in the world as his shortcomings. Just sayin'.
Here is a post of mine from an Iraq thread from last year. We agree on the troops continuing role there. My point in this thread here and now is that Obama has pretty much done what he said he was going to do with respect to these two wars.

I know I should be positive and happy. And well- I am for the troops who are coming home. But I can't help but think that semantics are at work. That we committed to an arbitrary date and that since the conditions don't actually warrant meeting that date that we are leaving 50,000 troops there to finish the job but making a faux distinction between the purpose of those who just left and those who remain.
Didn't we invade with 50,000 troops? So the idea that we have the same number of uniformed armed personnel in Iraq as the day we invaded Iraq makes it hard for me to say it and mean it- that combat operations are over and we are out of there.
Someone pls help me feel better about this if you would...

Replace the word respect with weak and see if it fits. I think we're comparing different things but I do believe that weakness leads to a lack of respect. Of course those taking advantage of it will always deny it. This is the same reason he received the Nobel Peace Prize for doing nothing other than getting elected.

What metric are you using to conclude that Obama is weak and Bush is strong?
If you are using the number of times the President uses the phrase "War on Terra" then I would agree that Obama is weak. But if you are using the number of Al Queda operatives being killed in the Afghanistan/Pakistan region I'd say he is pretty strong.

If you go by deaths, go by Americans killed then Obama is much weaker. I would love to see an int'l poll conducted on this.

You can't be serious. By applying your logic- all of America's war hawk Presidents and Generals would be those perceived as weakest because more Americans were killed while they were in command.

Do you mean number of American troops? Because the number of American citizens killed was quite a bit higher under Bush.
Both the global opinions of Obama's ability to deal with issues and the US are higher than under Bush. Obama More Popular Abroad than at Home, Global Image of U.S. Continues to Benefit - Pew Research Center
P.S. Noone of any intelligence thinks Obama is weak merely because he uses diplomacy and shows some respect for foreign dignitaries and their customs.

Once again, pls tell me why you believe Obama is weak. I'm asking you. I don't believe he is weak. I can provide evidence to support my assertion that he isn't weak. Can you provide any evidence to support the contrary?
Is he not John Wayne enough? No Texas accent? Is he too thin? Not enough war rhetoric? What's on your mind?

You say Obama is weak with nothing but Op Ed pieces to support your belief. If I write an op ed that says my dog is to blame for Egypt because he is too weak would you believe it?
Back to Obama. Let's start with the war on terror. He's weak?
Just last month on CNN's State of the Union, not one but two top Bush administration intelligence officials made the point that this White House has been just as tough - if not tougher on the War on Terror as George W.
One is Bush?s former National Intelligence Director and retired Navy Vice Admiral Michael McConnell. The other is Former Central Intelligence Agency Director Michael Hayden, a retired Air Force general.
My favorite quote-
"The new administration has been as aggressive, if not more aggressive, in pursing these issues because they're real."

Here's another for you-
Missile attacks targeting Al Queda operatives in Pakistan's tribal areas have nearly tripled under the Obama administration.

Let's talk immigration.
The Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency deported more than 400,000 people this past fiscal year. This was nearly 10 percent more than the Bush administration's 2008 total and 25 percent more than in 2007.
In addition, company audits, in which Immigration officials go after employers hiring and employing illegals has nearly quadrupled since Bush's last year in office.

I could keep going but would like to give you a chance to provide something to support your assertion that Obama is weak besides the opinion of partisan talking heads.
