I look back at the 80s photos of me, and the permed hair looks so horrible. But you know how trends cycle. I am tired of taking the time ever day to flat-iron my now frizzy hair (thanks to the gray) which is highlighted blonde. With 80s hair, I just washed it and let it dry naturally. So easy, especially at the beach.
I keep asking my hairdresser when curly hair is going to be stylish again. He smiles.
Obviously you can relate to this, DD.

I can.
I'm not sayin' I want those big rooster bangs from the 80's (weren't those just the worst?), but I wouldn't mind some big smooth curls. I'll let y'all know what happens with the hot rollers. 😱
Get that hairdresser to give you an answer!

Have Y'all considered getting 'wiggy' with it?
I have no energy for rollers-n-sech as that. As a matter of fact, I'm beyond ready for my hair to turn totally cotton-top! The old-old generations of my family have BEAUTIFUL clouds of white hair.
I wish my hair would just get with it, 'pass go & collect $200'!

No wig for me. No white either--not til I move down the hall at the NH.Well, if I had the beautiful, perfectly white (not gray-white, but really platinum) and straight hair that my Mom has, I wouldn't color mine. But my gray hair is coming in frizzy and gray -- yuck. So blonde highlights, a glaze, and flat-irons for me!
Unfortunately Mom is refusing to have her hair done. So the doc upped her Namenda patch dosage today so she hopefully will get her vanity back.

I'm pretty sure mine's salt & pepper under the blonde---who knows?
I think of your mom often, BR.

Mom was feeling woozy and dizzy last weekend, so I I was afraid she was having a recurrence of her heart problems. I decided to take her to her doctor for an EKG. It was perfectly normal.
Her doctor said that he is amazed how much better she is doing. After being at death's door two years ago from a-fib, now she is just sassy. The Namenda and Exelon have helped, but my theory is that the blood thinner that she was put on after the a-fib prevented more clots from forming and landing in her brain, thus providing more blood flow in her brain and resulting in improved cognitive skills. She's very conversational (when she couldn't even talk in late 2009) and watches TV (which she hasn't been able to do since 2006).
TMI, but I am a believer in Namenda patches, Exelon, and Aggrenox.
Anyhow, she has great hair.

My mom had beautiful silver hair. I think mine might be approaching that color, but who can tell under all the color. Maybe if I make 70 I'll let it be gray

Well, DD knows how sick and tired I was with my hair when I got back to Big D after fall trip. Went in for haircut and natural coloring :sarc: and Hakan says..."Let's do a perm." So, we did it. He does a double perm (to keep frizzing away)....small rods, setting lotion, take it down and roll on bigger rods and neutralize. I now have some bigger hair and feel oh so close to God!
Of course, this now means another trip every three months and more $, but it has been funn for a change!

As a former beauty queen, I LOVE me some BIG hair! I used hot rollers every day for years until this last cut... Now I have to flat iron it, which is a big pain in the tush. I was kind of on auto-pilot with the rollers--I could get 'em in and out in 5 minutes flat.
I love wigs! I don't know that I could pull off wearing one all the time, but they're so much fun to play dress up with...:cool:

I must see this hair-do, MK!!! It sounds adorable.
I would possibly go for a perm for something different and for body, but do NOT make me do rollers or a flat iron or anything beyond a blow dryer, ever again! I was cured of hot rollers way back when.
DD - mine is flat and straight (naturally) which is kind of boring.. but, personally, I'm ready for SHORT again! super short!

I buzz mine every week. It is so easy to take care of. Just use a wash cloth with a little shampoo and presto. :lolabove::lolabove::lolabove:

Don't worry so much about what's "in" - if it looks good on you and works with your hair type, you can make it be in style.
Of course, I can say this because I don't think I have ever had a fashion correct hairdo.....................but really, the most trendy au courant styles are the worst looking ones years later.
Thankfully I am going white (thanks BP), not grey - so I can pretend it's blond highlights. ;-)

Miss Kitty, we want pics!
I learned a new trick from my hairdresser to make my thin hair look bigger. After washing it, I use clips to round-brush it while drying it, bottom to top (this is not a new trick -- I learned this from Van at Van Michael). I only do three layers because I don't have the patience/time to do it as meticulously as hairdressers do. I quickly flat-iron each layer. This is the new trick: I put in 4 big velcro rollers on the top, two on each side by my face, and 1 in the back. None around the nape of my neck. I apply hairspray and dry the rollers for about 30 seconds total. Then I put on my makeup, get dressed, pull out the rollers, and voila ... volume! I quickly (as in about 10 seconds) flat-iron the sides so it won't look so round.
I can shower, do hair and makeup, and dress in 20-25 minutes!
Jeffrey is the best!

Doesn't flat-ironing your hair after round brush drying it defeat the purpose of round brush drying it?
