Hehehehehe....... I kinda like this. If anyone can harass these harassers, I think Anon. might be the people for the job.
Anonymous Sends An Open Letter To The Westboro Baptist Church, threatening to declare war on the WBC if it doesn't cease protesting, which you know they won't, Anonymous says they will retaliate.
AN OPEN LETTER FROM ANONYMOUS
February 16, 2011
TO THE CONGREGANTS OF WESTBORO BAPTIST CHURCH: We, the collective super-consciousness known as ANONYMOUS - the Voice of Free Speech & the Advocate of the People - have long heard you issue your venomous statements of hatred, and we have witnessed your flagrant and absurd displays of inimitable bigotry and intolerant fanaticism. We have always regarded you and your ilk as an assembly of graceless sociopaths and maniacal chauvinists & religious zealots, however benign, who act out for the sake of attention & in the name of religion.
Being such aggressive proponents for the Freedom of Speech & Freedom of Information as we are, we have hitherto allowed you to continue preaching your benighted gospel of hatred and your theatrical exhibitions of, not only your fascist views, but your utter lack of Christ-like attributes. You have condemned the men and women who serve, fight, and perish in the armed forces of your nation; you have prayed for and celebrated the deaths of young children, who are without fault; you have stood outside the United States National Holocaust Museum, condemning the men, women, and children who, despite their innocence, were annihilated by a tyrannical embodiment of fascism and unsubstantiated repugnance. Rather than allowing the deceased some degree of peace and respect, you instead choose to torment, harass, and assault those who grieve.
Your demonstrations and your unrelenting cascade of disparaging slurs, unfounded judgments, and prejudicial innuendos, which apparently apply to every individual numbered amongst the race of Man - except for yourselves - has frequently crossed the line which separates Freedom of Speech from deliberately utilizing the same tactics and methods of intimidation and mental & emotional abuse that have been previously exploited and employed by tyrants and dictators, fascists and terrorist organizations throughout history. ANONYMOUS cannot abide this behavior any longer. The time for us to be idle spectators in your inhumane treatment of fellow Man has reached its apex, and we shall now be moved to action. Thus, we give you a warning: Cease & desist your protest campaign in the year 2011, return to your homes in Kansas, & close your public Web sites.
Should you ignore this warning, you will meet with the vicious retaliatory arm of ANONYMOUS: We will target your public Websites, and the propaganda & detestable doctrine that you promote will be eradicated; the damage incurred will be irreversible, and neither your institution nor your congregation will ever be able to fully recover. It is in your best interest to comply now, while the option to do so is still being offered, because we will not relent until you cease the conduction & promotion of all your bigoted operations & doctrines. The warning has been given. What happens from here shall be determined by you.
WE ARE ANONYMOUS.
WE ARE LEGION.
WE DO NOT FORGIVE.
WE DO NOT FORGET.
EXPECT US.

I saw footage of the Westboro Baptist church bus being stoned by angry folks at one of their protests. Footage was being shot from inside the bus, glass smashing and the leader telling all the member to hit the floor and cover their faces. ..
What is really disturbing to me was the fact that there were little children on the bus as well, one child looking very frightened. My heart goes out to the poor children who will grow up with a very distorted idea of faith and religion.

The WB block-square compound is located in the heart of my hometown. It's cult-like with 20' high brick walls... and 'feels bad' to even drive past it. Most heartbreaking is to see those poor little kids schlepped all over the place, forced to carry vile hate placards by kindergarten age. Quite a few of their group are sent to law school so they always have an army of built-in legal representation; that knows PRECISELY how far they can twist the 'letter of the law'. So far... their efforts to become elected officials have been defeated (but you can see where they're trying to go with the efforts).:(

do you have any idea where the kernel of all this hatred began? ...it is pretty "over the top"...

Don't they claim to find it within the pages of the bible?

It's their pastor. There's a documentary about them called Fall From Grace. Basically this guy has some major rage issues as described by 2 of his children interviewed for the film. He's not only a hate monger, but a child and wife beater.

I don't think I have the stomach to watch it...what kind of hold does he have over people that they would allow him to manipulate them in such an outrageous manner...and to subject their children to so much negative energy?
I also wonder why the organization of Baptist churches...or organized religion in general allows their name to be used by such a hate filled group?

It's an impossibility for me to fathom.
Don't they claim to find it within the pages of the bible?
They claim that as justification; but many more theologically educated folks than I have been unable to find "The" Christian/New Testament bible that provides basis/justification for such extreme & violent hatred.

Their leader is Fr&d Ph&lps. I'd heard a few years ago that one or two of his adult children had 'escaped' and authored (or participated in authoring) a book. Perhaps it's of the same title as the film you refer to. I'll check around.

Cases of cult brainwashing and the recruitment and manifestation methods are legion.
Back in the 70's (before anybody ever heard of WB) we attended jr. & high school with the kids of one of the 'initial' (not birth) congregant families. Those kids seemed... deeply sad & troubled, ragged, under-fed, beaten down, insular, separate and generally disenfranchised. The oldest son ( :idontno:maybe more of those kids) went on to intermarry with the original WB birth family and morph (over 40 yrs time) into an "elder" in the hate movement. We've often pondered, in this particular case, what came first... the chicken or the egg?
Glenda... I, too, have wondered why The Baptist Conference hasn't publicly denounced them. Perhaps there are legal implications of libel, 1st amendment rights, etc. It's my understanding that this group are incredibly savvy about how to push every law to the VERY PRECIPICE of the limits. For Example: when they protest & picket they carefully stay within public lands easements/boundaries and do not 'physically' encroach on privately held property.
It's all a horror mystery to me.

The Rep showed the "Fall from Grace" movie last year during the Dark House series- the director is a friend of Rep company manager and actor Anne Marie Carroll.

Below link includes a link to a 30min. video interview done in Spring 2010 w/ Nate Phelps, one of the estranged children. He separated from the family in 1980, now lives in Canada, presents as a very thoughtfully soft spoken man who stopped attending any sort of church 6-7 years ago.

Thanks.... I found that fascinating.
Nate has certainly had his own challenges with what he's been exposed to and subsequently raising his own family. I would think it very hard for most people to emerge from that upbringing in the positive way that he seems to have. It would take a strong man who can think critically, which he appears to be.

Yes Rita, I agree.
If interested in additional background information, I found this link to chapter 8 of "Addicted to Hate"; which I think was written 15-18 years ago by Topeka journalists... a few years after WBC launched their protest / picketing campaigns in 1991.
The whole story seems to be available on the site. I've only read this particular chapter; it is based on interviews with Nate and his older brother Mark regarding their 'ultimate escape'.
It's all very hard to 'hear', even in written form. There is no way I could stomach watching an hour long horror film showcasing the 'membership' spewing their world-encompassing-vileness. Although, as someone on a comment board wisely pointed out: the Phelps group actually end up evoking the exact OPPOSITE response to the hatred they espouse...
which is love & acceptance ... and that's good!

Glenda, below "quoted" info from that oft disparaged source, Wikipedia.
Worth putting into perspective:
Only 71 members, of whom at least 10 (his wife and the 9 'remaining' children) were physically beaten & terrorized into submission... by the now 82 yr old tyrant.
Shoot! I'll bet they all have a celebration dance around a big bonfire of placards when the old man finally croaks!
The church is widely described as a hate group and is monitored as such by the Anti-Defamation League and Southern Poverty Law Center. It is headed by Fred Phelps and consists mostly of members of his large family; in 2007, it had 71 members. The WBC is not affiliated with any known conventions or associations. The church describes itself as following BaptistPrimitive Baptist and Calvinist principles, though mainstream Primitive Baptists reject the WBC and Phelps.

thanks for all the info everyone.
I think their approach to life is just incomprehensible to any rational thinking being. It is sad to know little kids are expose to such horror.

This is interesting:
Privacy and Security Fanatic: Anonymous: It's a trap! | Network World
It's a long-standing tactic of Westboro to sue anyone who attempts to stop them, and then collect settlements.
Anonymous claims the original Open Letter was actually written by Westboro to bait them into attacking.

This wouldn't surprise me. When I read the posted letter, the language seemed crafted to sound like that of a former insider. Allegedly, one of the granddaughters directs internet exploitation.

What's interesting is that the WBBC website seems to have been down for months now. I'm not going to post it here since no one needs a link ot a blank page. Should you truly feel the need, it's their battle cry with .com at the end.

😱 No Thanks. I'll NEVER intentionally come near any site they've authored.
