these are sample benchmark questions for florida's 5th grade fcat test. teacher pay will be contingent on 10 year olds knowing the answers. did you know the answers? you don't care, do you? tea time.

I'm not a teabaggeres, but curious to know why you have so many posts in one thread, Bob?

On this particular question, are you looking for the inner surface area or outer surface area? If you are looking for the inner surface area, how thick are the pieces of the prism?

bob, most Americans couldn't pass a citizenship test without studying, so what's your point?

its about tying merit pay to test answers not appropriate for the age group. that's my point, but if you aren't a teacher it does not matter much. i have a close friend who is a elementary school teacher who had an 80 IQ student added to the class this month. the kid is capable a very little other than being in class. he will be taking the fcat with all the other children, and the teacher's pay/evals will be figured partly on his test scores. this policy is an abomination.

Then all the elementary teacher needs to do is start teaching like all the other "loser" teachers with no other interest than their paycheck and start teaching the answers to the tests so the kids pass and the teacher gets paid accordingly.

I say this hoping the teacher you speak of is above this style of teaching. The above statement was made because this has been in the news as a response from some teachers as the only way to protect their income. These teachers need to go away, period.

Teaching is a noble career that should never be considered lightly because these are the professionals equipping the future generations to continue the course of this questionable nation.

I personally couldn't do what they do.

...and I'm with ASH. This will be the best thing that happens to Florida public schools for a long time.

if a chicken and a half can lay an egg and a half in a day and a half, then how many eggs can a rooster lay in a week?

Roosters lay hens, not eggs.

Teacher pay would be decided according to a yet-to-be determined measure of student performance on standardize test along with other criteria determined by local school boards.
Current teachers could remain in the tenure system but new teachers would have to be re-hired each year.
I am sure that there will be some form of tenure allowed after a teacher has been re-hired for a certain number of years. The main point is that not all merit performance will be be based solely on student's standardized tests. Anyone with an ounce of common sense would realize that is ridiculous.
