Florida Teachers Pay Falling

Report: Florida public teachers? salaries keep dropping | The Florida Independent
The Florida Center for Fiscal and Economic Policy today issued its State of the State of Florida report, which compares Florida?s education, health and human services, and tax fairness with other states. Among the organization?s findings: In 2009-2010, teachers salaries in the Sunshine State ranked 37th in the United States. #

The Sun-Sentinel today reported that: #

The Broward County School District last year paid about 34 of its painters and 24 of its roofers at least $59,000 ? more per day than it paid teachers with 16 years of experience. #

Seventeen stock clerks earned $52,000 or more, while 18 grass cutters and three pest-sprayers were paid about $50,000 ? each making more per day than most 10-year teachers. #

Taxpayers also paid two mail clerks about $49,000, more per day than many 7-year teachers. #

Everything I know about why a company locates a business...says the company looks for a competent, educated workforce from which to draw, as one of its main criteria.

Yet, in Florida, we are about to give the new governor $400 Million to open an office of Economic Development...money that has been taken from trust funds that fund basic needs like infrastructure, safety nets for the disabled, etc. etc., and we are cutting education even further.

So, what's wrong with this picture?

Here in Texas, the city bus drivers recently had a strike. Now they are making more than teachers with many years of experience.

benefits, benefits, benefits. You can't compare salaries like this without taking into account benefits. Around 40% of teacher pay in Florida comes in the form of a deferred payment. By making a straight salary comparison between people who enjoy defined benefit pensions and people who don't is pure skullduggery, IMHO.

I see the GOP has rolled out the "paint the current president as a war monger" campaign.

Florida's new education slogan:

You want a report card with that education?

The war was only a bullet point among dozens on that campaign.

For most Republicans ( excluding me) the wars, including Libya, are not an issue at all. Since I think it is lunacy to spend millions lobbing rockets at sheepherders, I don't even agree with Obama on that issue. No true conservative could agree with his reckless spending and government takeovers of businesses.

:funn: You do understand that Libya is all about oil right? That's a nonpartisan issue.

I understand totally that it is about oil/money. But unless we are prepared to follow Trump's lead and seize the oil and keep it for ourselves, I cannot see what difference it makes which extremist arab who hates America has control over it.

You don't really think Trump is a viable candidate do you?

America has followed the formula of supporting the least offensive (to us) dictator, regime, or government that holds the oil. If we simply went in and seized it we'd be in WW III over night.

1. I doubt he is a viable candidate- says what is truly on his mind rather than sound bites. His views tend to enrage both the right and the left.

2. Boy that pick a dictator strategy has worked out great hasn't it?:sarc:
