We spent all night under warning with sirens going, then they moved to Mississippi and my daughter spent most of the night and early morning in her closet and now they have gone to Alabama and lots of damage in Tuscaloosa. Prayers for everyone affected.

Bama Tornadoes

Looks like Bama is going to look like a war zone by morning. They have been hit very hard today by many tornadoes with significant damage and injuries being reported. Look out Georgia and Atlanta...coming your way..

Thoughts and prayers to all...hopefully none of our Sowallers or their families.

Watched wx channel earlier and they had live coverage for about 30 min. of a 2-3 mile wide tornado on the ground going from the West to North section of Birmingham. Pretty amazing and ugly...

I saw that tornado coverage on the weather channel - so big it didn't look like a tornado! absolutely unbelievable. I've been in touch with family this afternoon in Bama - some without power. Praying for everyone to stay safe.

The tornado that just rolled through here was unbelievable. Devastated areas from west birmingham from where it came from and never stopped all the way through north birmingham and is still moving east. Stayed on the ground and was a giant monster all the way through the city. INSANE

Tornadoes in Georgia too. I can't remember how many times the TV beeped and a tornado warning alert appeared. Pepper and I were so scared. Hubby is out of town on business, and he was so distraught that he wasn't here for us. I slept downstairs on the sofa near our only room without windows so that if the sirens went off again, Pepper and I could seek shelter.

I am totally exhausted. Long day ahead. Classes 8-11, seminar 11-12, setting up venue for a retirement party for one of my colleages, then hosting the party from 2-4. Oh, then driving contact lenses to Atlanta for our daughter who needs them so she can see while phoographing a wedding in Cleveland, OH. (She is the lead photographer out of a group of 7 photographers. She'd drive down here, but is doing a photoshoot today and is flying to Cleveland tomorrow.)

Thinking of our neighbors to the south. Watched on tv as the tornado moved across the northern part of Birmingham. We have enjoyed many UofL events in the city. It's a lot like Louisville. The zoo, their gardens are wonderful. They are going to need a lot of help there and other parts of the south. I guess donations to the Red Cross, if you can't be there physically? Ellen

My prayers go out to all effected by these tornadoes.

We had them here all last week. Hundreds of houses gone, but thankfully no lives lost, feeling very lucky after viewing the storms from yesterday.

Is the Red Cross the best method to help the victims of any of these natural disasters? Can we designate to a certain area that our donation would go to - if for some reason we are inclined to do that? I'm thinking of our many visits to Birmingham AL. Ellen

So many things seem very insignificant in view of devastation of homes and loss of life.

Sweet Home Alabam

I lived in Northeast Alabama for 50 years before moving to Walton County. I spent last night watching, waiting, praying and trying to contact friends and family. In the light of day, I am releasing a sigh of relief because all my friends and family are OK. To all the people in my Sweet Home Alabama, I am sending checks, thoughts and prayers. Hang in there and be strong!
