Charged with implementing the Medicaid Managed Care Program, AHCA officials heard from a succession of pharmacists who said forcing Medicaid patients to receive their drugs by mail would ultimately jeopardize patient health and put many pharmacies out of business.
“There is no incentive by the mail order drug suppliers to provide good customer service,” Medicaid patient Eugene Buchanan said to loud applause from the standing-room-only crowd. “You can’t fire these people for poor service.
“Mail orders get robbed out of peoples’ mail boxes, and the whole system of mail order pharmacies is a failure,”.

The post office can't deliver my mail. Lord help me if I depended on them for medicine.
How would this even work? I have to sign for my prescriptions and get them from a pharmacist.
Forget small businesses, this will kill people.

The reform measures put in place do not require drugs be delivered by mail-order. However managed care providers do rely on this type of service for delivery of long term prescriptions. What these folks are really complaining about is this - until recently (I believe this first changed in 2010), Florida didn't allow mail order delivery of drugs, so local pharmacies enjoyed a monopoly on the business of dispensing treatments to Medicaid patients. With the recent changes managed care providers will now be free to choose what works best for patients while also hopefully saving on cost.
It would be unfortunate if some small town pharmacies were hurt by these changes, but that’s not guaranteed to happen.
