Just asking, what is the the Tea Party, what does the Tea Party believe in. I have an idea but only because I am not, but would love to understand what it is and why they believe what they believe?

Wars yes; Tax cuts? Only because of huge increases in spending that overtook the increases in revenue. Add in the hyper-stupidity of loaning anyone money for houses they could not afford through freddie and fannie and the regulations jungle that killed businesses or drove them overseas and you have the critical mass. That mass was created by both democrats and republicans. Bush deserves the blame for getting us into Iraq for no good reason and staying in Afghanistan to "nation build" instead of destroying Al Queda and getting out. He also deserves blame for the TARP and the bank bailouts. Obama deserves blame for the stimulus, trillion dollar deficits and Obamacare. Just because Bush was a disaster for Republicans does not mean the Democrats had to get even with a disaster in Obama.
The Iraq and Afghan wars were the only wars in US history to not be funded by a tax increase. Instead , they were coupled to major tax cuts, which is commonly known in economic terms as a double-whammy.

IMO the fiscal agendas of the Tea Party are universal, but the social agenda is Republican.
Really wish the Social agenda could not have happened so that the Tea Party COULD achieve greatness as a major 3rd party and bring some much needed non-partisan finance discussion to debates, the ballot, and the capitals.
My thoughts exactly.
The Tea Party was born of racial fear from having a black President.
For real? Do you have a link? Oh, wait...I see your other post.

My thoughts exactly.aren't you a 3 wood from GW? Tea Party central in Florida is The Villages, few blacks, all white meat. Does The Lone star state have a similar hangout?

What most Tea Party members advocate are drastic cuts in spending to bring our fiscal house in order. True cuts have not been attempted in decades. What Washington calls a "cut" is simply a reduction in the rate of spending growth.
This is how I see the Tea Party also. Drastic cuts scare me but I would like to see them successful in forcing cuts and efficiency improvements. What I do not like about the Tea Party is the introduction of the cultural wars into their agenda. That is why I would have a very hard time ever supporting them. Look at the first actions many took around the country and in DC after the 2010 elections.... social issues - not jobs and budgets.

Scooty nails it for me! The fringes/extremes with their social agendas really muddied the water for the Tea Party imo.

What I have learned about the Tea Party from Sowal--it is a diverse group from state to state, and it cannot be labeled really.
Scooterbug really summed it up the best--it's fiscal issues are Universal, it's social agenda (which may not be in the forefront of it's mission statement) is basically Republican.

My interest in the Tea Party began as an outlet to fight against the runnaway spending and huge deficits that Bush and Obama have promoted. I do not trust either party to fight the fight because both are guilty. I think we will have to fight the social fights after we insure we have a country to fight in.

Poppy, you are absolutely correct and those are the reasons we are going to make sure Obama is a one term president. Regardless how much you and others would like to make the Tea Party movement a totally Republican one, it is not true in the mind of this supporter, and I would like to think, many others who support many of our beliefs.
Nice try but researching your timeline you did not form during the Bush admin. This movement took off just days after Obama's inauguration so I find it hard to believe you suddenly became aware of your screw-up. The real irony is that the original fear narrative of the Tea Party was increased taxes under a Democrat but taxes have actually been lower under Obama than the Bush. As Americans we all share and support common beliefs and you have every right to form your own political party but you should really distance yourselves from some of the crazies who claim to be affiliated with your movement.

I don't know if I'm one of the crazies you are referring to, but I would affiliate with Poppy's viewpoint, anytime.

The press was writing about the Tea Party long before Obama became a presidential contender. The original use of the term was coined at a Ron Paul rally in Boston on December 16th 2007 to commemorate the Boston Tea Party of 1776.
Now I get it, you want it to be all about race so you can easily discount the whole movement. But you're wrong it's not.

Those were not wars they were police actions. You know democrats don't start wars, nasty republicans do. And you need to stop confusing their narrative by bringing up inconvienent truths.

I do not lecture and if you wish to include those I'm speaking of then the Tea Party is exactly the far right racist organization many believe it to be.
