Sure, some people claim to enjoy exercise. But then, some people claim to have been abducted by aliens too.

About 1/200 joggers I see has a somewhat happy expression. The rest look miserable.

Funny you ask. I've been a runner before, and while it is typical to not be smiling while running, I always felt far better after the recovery from the run. Now that I am no longer a runner, you would see pain on my face if I was running.

Being in SoWal, I see many runners. Some glide through their run and others, ... well, some people just weren't designed to run. It's great that they are trying, but if it is that much of a struggle, there is something called "walking" which will do them very well.

When I was in my best running shape, not only did I smile when I ran, I sang out loud along with the songs on my iPod ... even going up Cardiac Hill.

I miss smiling when I run. It used to be a daily occurrence and could often last for 10 miles or so. Lately I kind of grin when I see my house after a 2 mile loop.

I don't smile when I run. I usually scream "HELP" because someone is chasing me.

All I can think of when I run is a cadence in my head that is saying.....I HATE THIS...I HATE THIS....I HATE THIS...I HATE THIS....
Never could get to that magic moment where you don't care. Therefore..I don't run. It's not for me.

I began running last July for the first time and finished my first half-marathon in June, next one is in November. I frequently smile and play the "air drums" which is kind like an air guitar. I just did it this morning when I ran about 3 miles.

Spinning is a blast if you have an excellent teacher, top notch bikes and great music (and good sound system). I've been in a "bad" spin class with bad music and bad equipment - and it was the worst kind of exercise experience ever.
I need to get back to spin asap.
I tend to go around dazed for the rest of the day, in a good kind of way.

congratulations Beachsio - I'm proud of you! Do you wear an OMB bra of some kind while running? I do think runners are nuts. The injuries and long term impact on the body are ridiculous. but, whatever makes one happy I suppose!

I understand what you're saying about running, but I am feeling the opposite. My knees used to hurt as did my lower back prior to running but now I feel a lot better. I will NEVER be a marathoner but 3-5 miles three times a week has been very good for me physically, not to mention a great stress reliever.

I could never run on a treadmill but live in a beautiful area so that's not a problem. I think spinning would be like running on a treadmill. BTW, my better half ran the half marathon too, but i think she is retired now

Yes, I used to smile quite regularly when I was still running... it was my meditation space & where I could get 'in the zone' an hour out into a good low-speed run.

Why pick on someone else's fun or fitness regime?

spinning is just funn, if the music is right.

I love fitness walking - that works for me more than anything. very therapeutic to be outdoors and a great workout (if you do it on a regular basis and throw in some lunges, etc)...
