Indy 500

I really don't keep up with Indy 500. I am a football, baseball, basketball kinda girl. So has this Danika ever won any races? She is very pretty.

Danica is in her second year on the Indy circuit and has not yet won a race, and this fact is receiving some attention given that she is one of the best young drivers (male or female) to come along in the past several years. As a rookie last year, in just her fourth race, she finished fourth in the Indy 500. She led for 19 laps -- the only woman ever to lead at Indy -- but needed to refuel near the end. Otherwise she may have won it. :clap_1:

Danica is the top driver on her team, which is half owned by David Letterman. The team's cars are not as fast as they were last season, and Danica is struggling to keep pace with the leaders. However she did qualify 10th of 33 for today's Indy. No one (except perhaps Richard Petty :roll: ) believes she is anything but an excellent driver.

Because I am a chick, looking at her photos in FHM makes me wince. She is lovely and I think the Secret ads are more appropriate. But at the same time, she is now part of a massive marketing machine, for better or for worse, and there are going to be missteps. I just hope she can get a faster car so she can show "the King" Mr. Petty what she can do. You go, girl! 😀

Yesterday, I learned that this year, the Indy Cars are running on 10% ethanol. Next year, all Indy Cars will be running off of 100% ethanol (alcohol made from corn) just like the Duke Boys. What a great start for promoting the use of renuable fuels, which could also get us the hell out of the middle east. :clap_1:

It would be scandalous if they didn't use ethanol, seeing that the racing cars get about five feet per gallon (exaggeration but not as much as you might think ;-) ). Plus, it's not like we don't grow enough corn here in the Midwest.

BTW, the race was amazing! We sat in Gasoline Alley behind the pits. It was really interesting having such a close view of how the crews work. Danica's pit was to our left so we saw her after the race as she went over race details with her crew. She looked so disappointed with herself but she was very gracious towards all the fans clamoring around.

We sure did since she was only a few feet from us, but these over-eager fans got in the way and blocked the view. :bang: So all we got in the photos were her long dark hair; the rest was the back of other people's heads. Grrrrr. We'll have to try better next year.

She's adorable, though. You look at this itty bitty little girl and you can hardly imagine that she's this human speeding bullet. And like I said, she has good rapport with her fans even when she's in a bad mood, which she clearly was after coming in 8th. Her face showed everything.
