Nascar Fans should be better than this!

Although I'm not a real Nascar fan I think the conduct of fans at the Miami race is disgraceful and gives the sport a black eye. I'm not a liberal or a Democrat but I think the First Lady and Mrs. Biden deserved respect. My understanding is that they were at the race for a good cause.

For those of you who missed this. The first lady was doing a fundraiser for veterans at the Miami-Homestead Nascar race and the fans gave her less than a warm welcome. But this isn't anything worthy of note to some.

I agree that they should have been treated with respect, but I am sadly not surprised that they weren't.

They both do a lot for our military and their families - something we should all agree is a good thing regardless of our political differences.

How is it even remotely surprising? Given the charged political climate and a crowd of 100,000 that was probably 90% conservative it was sure to happen. Coulda called it last week when I read she was going to be there.

Where's the news story here? If there is a news story, it's that Michelle Obama and Lisa Biden showed up at a NASCAR race. They aren't used to having to wear your sponsors' logos so that everyone can see them.

I hear that starting next year NASCAR is going to make some changes in the way they race. They are listening to the outcry of their fans and will reverse the direction of the race from counter-clockwise to clockwise. Too many fans were complaining that the sport was going too much to the left....

This kind of disrespectful behavior is not just limited to NASCAR fans. We see it happening all over.

Nascar will one day go the way of bullfighting. Racial prejudice in the South will die a far slower death.

Doubtful...

You're talking about a multi-billion dollar enterprise that attracts more Fortune 500 money than any other sport or entertainment property in America.

Look up the demographics of NASCAR. I think you will be really surprised.

I sure don't get why they're booing the wives of the President and VP. I could understand if it were the president. I don't think the liberal crowd had it in for Laura Bush, so I don't see what's up with booing Michele. I don't think she's that divisive. She tells people to eat right. Is that such a big deal? Maybe so amongst the Pabst drinking pigs feet eaters. I dunno...:idontno:

LOL!

She tells people to eat right and, then, goes out and gets photographed eating total crap. Has happened several times.

I think it's silly that they got booed, but they were being viewed as extensions of the husbands which isn't necessarily fair. It was a good cause that they are working for.

We all eat total crap once in a while. I don't think she's trying to make healthy eating into a religion and I see no hypocrisy whatsoever. Some people read too much into it, as if someone is trying to control their lives by making reasonable suggestions, which of course they are free to ignore at their discretion. Let's face it, some of those on the right, want to turn everything into one absurd conspiracy theory after another. They didn't get their way in the last election, so they scream, kick, and throw out childish barbs at every opportunity. In the meantime, the right has absolutely NOTHING to offer in the way of a viable candidate. That's what I would be upset about.

Even President Obama was getting heckled the same day in N.H. by a bunch of "Occupiers" so it isn't just NASCAR fans.

Actually, some of the Occupy Charlotte people are big into NASCAR, so Will is certainly right about the unpredictable demographics. Anyhow, like I said, razzing the President, any President, is understandable. The first lady, not so much, unless you sense that maybe she has political aspirations like when Hillary was first lady. Then I think she's fair game. I can't put Michelle in that category, and I know nothing about Jill Biden.

They may as well have been at a Tea Party sponsored by Budweiser. They knew they were not on home soil at a NASCAR race. They are essentially politickin' for their spouses. You don't honestly think a man isn't heavily influenced by his spouse, do you? They may not look like they are politickin', but why else would they be there to give the Start Your Engines cue? If they weren't First Lady and Mrs. Vice President, they would not have been at the race.

I just went to a NASCAR race and i can tell ya the faces in the grandstands are many different colors. The Obamas have now met the 'bitter clingers' they labeled.
