Happy father's day to all the dads out there! Here are a few thoughts in your honor:
One night a father overheard his son pray: Dear God, Make me the kind of man my Daddy is. Later that night, the Father prayed, Dear God, Make me the kind of man my son wants me to be. Anonymous
My father used to play with my brother and me in the yard. Mother would come out and say, "You're tearing up the grass." "We're not raising grass," Dad would reply. "We're raising boys." ~Harmon Killebrew
There's something like a line of gold thread running through a man's words when he talks to his daughter, and gradually over the years it gets to be long enough for you to pick up in your hands and weave into a cloth that feels like love itself. ~John Gregory Brown,

I miss my dad. He was a really good guy.
I think being an only child made him treasure me and my brothers even more.
This morning I cooked huevos rancheros for my spouse, and later the younger son watched the World Cup with his soccer dad.
Happy Father's Day to all the SoWal (and Gulf County!) dads.

Cil, I am sure you miss your dad. I have my dad still, even though he is 85 and is suffering from they say Alzheimer's and has battled heart disease with 6 bypasses and two stints over the past 15 to 20 years. Has an inoperable brain aneurysm and survived prostate cancer. Lost his dad to a heart attack and his mom to cancer. His brother has cancer, a deep place removed from his arm, which spread to his lymph nodes and then to his lungs and liver. My dad wrote a in depth letter to Dr. Gott, Dr. Gott said his letter content was not consistent with someone who exhibits signs of Alzheimers. Another of his doctors felt he suffered a stroke during a carotid artery surgery over a year ago. Other than that, he still is pretty sharp, and ornery. Hope to have him a good while longer, as he has outlived his mom and dad and sister also. She succumbed to a stroke back in 86. Will miss him when he is gone!

That's odd....I started a FD thread way early today and it vanished! Oh well, thanks to Paula we have a place to honor our daddies and those men that fathered our children! I  PawPaw! He is so cute...he finally got his new car! I  Mr. Kitty...he is cooking out steaks for his children! I did do all his laundry and set the table.

Happy day to my dad -- he spent it on the beach in Grayton!!
Happy first father's day to my husband!
We lost my father in law to cancer last fall. I hope he knows how thankful I am to him for raising a great son.

This pic made me remember Dad trying to teach me how to drive a stick shift. Then the later lesson on how to pump my own gas (why in the heck would I do that when a nice guy would come out and do it for me???:idontno: ) It was a speedy ride home after Dad spilled gasoline all over the crotch of his khakis. Man I miss him- he was such a classic.
Bdarg misses my dad too - when we first started dating, my Dad waited until the 3rd or 4th time that Bdarg came to the house before he told him that he knew a barber who could help him get rid of his ponytail problem.:floor:
Unfortunately Bdarg spent his own Father's Day stuck in traffic on I-65, where he had to sit for 3 hours, pee in roadside forest, and listen to the rest of us whine. I'm gonna try to throw him a better day later this week!

We are here for you jdarg. It is an awful bittersweet feeling...having had such a wonnderful time and then leaving SoWal. I remember that feeling well. I bet if you go looking, you can find some sand...it will make you smile!

Yeah, all over my car and the garage floor. We rinsed NOTHING off- just chucked it in the car and drove off! I don't think I have a pair of flips that aren't covered in sand. It's all good.😀

That's the best part, I think.. finding sand in something that you haven't used since vacation. I dug a pair of sandals out of my closet the other day, and they had sand in them. *sigh*
(maybe I should dump it into a baggie and bring it back down there?)
Oh, and happy Father's Day everyone! *HUGS* to those for whom today isn't so happy.

I remember when Peapod learned to drive a stickshift. My dad was teaching her and my brother and I were in the backseat of the red, hatchback Reanault. We had our hands out, as if we were holding onto a saddle, acting as though we were on a bucking horse. :floor: WE thought it was pretty funny, not sure Peapod was laughing, though!
