From my friend Shannon, who just returned from SoWal yesterday. This following many long texts about what they did, etc.:
"The whole trip, our family kept saying, "we're SO glad you called Renee before we came!" We drove through Destin on our way to Santa Rosa and none of us could imagine a worse vacation. Even the kids were mortified at how crowded it was. One day when it rained, I suggested maybe we go to Destin to check it out. A loud NO WAY erupted from the gang. You single handedly saved our vacation from disaster! It's our favorite place ever!! My in-laws have been to every continent and most countries and the still say SoWal beats them all!"
Shannon says they went from one end of 30A to the other and loved every place they stopped. They rode bikes to Watersound...ate at the RB, stopped in galleries, LOVED Sun Dog, ate ice cream at Creamery, got a massage at FTHOI, sang karaoke at Elmo's, had wine in Watercolor, burgers at Pickles, fished with Captain Steve, yolo'd and more! Makes me kinda look really lazy when I come.

Let's see
Based on all the advertising 30a and SoWal does, it seems that success is based on tourism dollars.....just like Destin.
Guess your definition of "success" is different than mine. Any success Destin might have had is lost on most of us. To each his/her own I guess.

Amen, NWFnative. I agree with your points, and thank you for starting this thread.
To expand on my major point above, Walton (and our neighboring counties) are about to get a once in a lifetime huge sum of money to "restore" the area to what is was pre-Macondo(BP) oil spill. We all know this as the RESTORE Act. Here is a recent clip: http://www2.wkrg.com/news/2012/jul/09/f-ar-4098436/
I believe that Walton County should take some of this minimum $1Billion and buy up some of the beachfront properties and PRESERVE this vanishing part of SoWal for now and future generations. (Disclaimer: I am not a Realtor, nor do I own any of this beachfront property).
Here is a document showing the potential allocation of RESTORE Act funds. Make yourself aware of what's going on with these funds. Otherwise, the politicians will spend this on who knows what.

I repeat, your definition of success is different than mine. Yours obviously is driven by money with no regard for other impacts. Do we really want to wind up a mini-Destin?

Is arguing with liberals like trying to play chess with a pigeon?
No matter how good I am at chess, the pigeon (liberal) is just going to knock over the pieces, crap on the board, and strut around like it's victorious.

Where is that emoticon of the train derailing and blowing up in a big old' fireball?
I'm glad your friends enjoyed their vacation and love SoWal!

:thanks:...that made a lot of sense to me....NOT! Actually, I tried to find the train wreck for Sheila and because I have a smilie issue, can only access 6 smilies....none of which will express my confusion! This is a lesson on a tangent gone terribly, terribly wrong! Keep up the good work, DD!

Ha!! It's been a long time since I witnessed a good old fashioned tangent/train wreck!! Not since the days of the meltdown.

Thanks, Toots! Wonder why my smilies are all jacked up? Of course, many of you might remember when I didn't know how to use a smilie!
