Italy - Germany match today was awesome and although my heart bled for the Germans who lost in the final minutes of overtime, there were 2 amazing goals from the Italians and they have assured themselves a spot in the final!

Now, PLEASE make France beat Portugal - have to watch the match today - and I will be delirious on Sunday.....

Anyone else in Sowal watching????

This is the first time my husband and I have watched a World Cup soccer match other than the other night. Born in Algeria huh, I read where he was born in Marseilles, France. Hum! :idontno: But either way, he was not nice!

Zidane was born in Marseille but is of Algerian descent, and he definitely deserved that red card, no matter what Materazzi said or did to him (and I am sure it was something provocative.) Despite this sad end to his career, sports journalists did give Zidane the Golden Ball award (best player of the World Cup.) I hope France forgives him.
red card, Golden Ball

Congratulations to Italy! ::raises glass of Brunello::

Miss Kitty has won Mother of the Year. MS, my son has watched every World Cup game and was lamenting the fact that we were landing here as the final began. So, after lunch, I found him an Irish pub chock full of people watching the final 10 minutes of the game and pushed our way in. It was an awesome experience to be around loud, drunk fans and watch the end! We then went outside where we all needed a beverage. Miss Kitty had a Colorado Bulldog and MS had a Bushmills with a splash. Mr. K and sarafunn had beers. We then went back to the hotel where I passed out for 4 hours...remember I had gotten up at 2:30 am!!!!

Pfft. I missed the ending. I was out at the marine watching with the locals, but hunger got the best of me and I headed back to my room.

Zidane got some sort of "best player" award. How's that for irony?

I know, potatovixen.
I think what probably happened is that the voting for the Golden Ball took place well before Zidane's red card.

A French acquaintance of mine says that Materazzi repeatedly called Zidane's sister a whore. Pretty bad, but trash-talking happens in every sport, I s'pose Zidane just couldn't quite take the pressure.
