Absolutely fantastic video - good for him - I meet people all the time with a TON of money who have ZERO interest in traveling the world - they would rather spend their money on expensive cars, massive TV's, etc... to each his own I guess but I never understand that - seeing the world does not make you smarter but it gives you an exposure and greater understanding of other cultures than one can otherwises NOT acquire. And what is great about this is the fact that Matt confirms that you do not need a lot of $$$ to travel....

Matt's dancing makes me just sit there and smile and wonder .... what else did he do while he was there, or what are the locals thinking about this dancing guy (especially the guards in England)... who is filming this man dancing all over the world?

Also, I've always thought of "eating" as being my best reason for travel, along with an appreciation for different cultures - dancing in the street would be another good purpose... maybe we'll do our own dancing in sowal and beyond and post pictures or video. Sueshore - can you be our first to dance in Alaska?

Gotta practice the Matt dance...

Travel is intensified living - Rick Steeves

oh Ricky Steeves - we've used more of his travel advice than I care to remember. it got to be a joke on our last trip to Italia - every tourist in each town had beat us to his hotel picks, leaving us with NO where to stay - and one night we ended up in a taxi going to God knows where -to a friend of the taxi driver who owned a small hotel in the sticks. scarey but turned out fine. We were all Rick Steeves book carriers - and cursing him by the end of the trip... some of his picks were a little too economical (dumps).

That's why we still *sometimes* stay in hostels. If you read the hostel reviews, you find out ahead of time if they are at least clean. I've stayed in several hostels that were a cut above dumpy 1-star hotels (and cheaper, too.)
Steves has turned some destinations [cough cough] Cinque Terre[cough cough] into human petting zoos but he can be a funny, engaging guy.

I saw Matt the dancer's story on another board and I much appreciate his joie d'vivre.

yes, I do like Ricky-baby - he taught us a lot. however... it still got to be a joke to the point we were all traveling, going "rick steeves sux!", even though we didn't mean it, much. yes, we went to cinque terre the first time and we were practically alone with the locals. about 8 years later - it was covered up with tourists from America and Europe and Australia and Japan. The trail between cities was quite a bit more traveled and unsafe in many places, some litter and vandalism, the Virgin Mary statue behind bars for security, etc ... we still loved it though. it was fun staying in a small apartment (efficiency) - owned and decorated by the old man or woman next door - making a very real Italian experience for us.
