Just wondering if anyone here lives on north end of 393. around Cessna landing. My husband and I will be moving to this location in the next year. Just wanting general info..How is it for crime, traffic, fishing... flooding etc. I don't currently live in this area.

Search this map for crime in any area in Walton County. Personally, I like the area you are moving to, but it feels like a whole other world than 30-A. You have been there, right?
yes I have, I own a house there. I've rented it thus far but am moving there soon. It seems like a great place being so close to the boat ramp plus I love the tall pine trees and there just aren't many to speak of close to the beach. love pt washington also but couldn't find anything for sale there. Does it flood on 393 often ? I'm thinking the above picture was the result of a hurricane?

I have lived off 393 north for 4 years and haven't seen it flood. It's rare we get enough rain to cause that kind of flood. You will be in a good spot I think. Close to bay and only 4 or 5 miles to the beach. Good luck and welcome!
Whew! Thanks Jill. that's so good to hear!

I agree, I don't think the pic above is anything typical. I'm guessing you have seen the nice upgrades made to Cessna Landing last year. Very nice park. Welcome to town!

The area of 393 North is a mixed neighborhood of nice homes and then there are affordable rentals/homes. There is quite a bit of drug traffic (meth) there and some recent crimes that are drug related, home invasion and a shooting. A large population of illegal immigrants, some may be legal, that live in that area. The above posts are nice, but not stating the whole picture. This is the negative side. The positive side is the park, Bay and Bayou and close proximity to the beach. You own property there so I assume you have driven through the neighborhoods, or just 393N. Drive through on a warm day, maybe even on a weekend, and I promise your head will spin. I don't want to be the killjoy, but you should know what you may be getting into.
Thanks, good info SGG. My renters haven't had any trouble so far. I had seen some pretty ugly properties but not close to the house. I guess if it turns out scary it will be back on the rental market.
Yes, the park looks great! and they finally removed the ss Minnow that sat there half underwater by the dock! HAHAHA! the arts center is really nice also. Now all I need is a kayak and a pistol. LOL!

Sorry - yes the photo is a hurricane Ivan 2004 photo - if you follow the link below the photo you'll see more.
Every storm is different. Some might flood bayside areas and some might actually cause lower water levels.
The truth is almost every area north of 98 are wetlands or former wetlands that have been drained and/or filled. I can imagine a worst-case storm scenario where almost everything north of 98 could get flooded, but would be rare and may never happen in our lifetime.

Thanks. Well I guess that's what the NFIP is for (if it still exists). Seems like every rent house has a name around here. I will name mine "A River Runs Through it". None of these posts have really put me off the moving idea. I must be more determined than I thought.
