Is it coming on again later tonight? I am not watching it. Not too crazy about sharks! Doubt many people want to watch that and come to the panhandle afterwards.

Watched some before the dog pull. Saw it last year. Doesn't bother me, lady, since I only go in to my knees. ;-)

I go ankle deep looking for shells and that is it. I saw a shark last year from the deck. First I saw a big school of fish swimming very fast parallel along the beach and then I saw this bigger something swimming after them. It definitely was a shark and was moving on itself. It looked about 2 1/2 to 3 ft. long!

Shark Week almost always falls around our summer trip to the beach.
It definitely makes me more aware of my surroundings in the water.
Yesterday, I didn't mind being out a little farther since the water was so clear - if it's the least bit murky or seaweed-y, no thanks.

Unfortunately, all of Shark Week shows which I have seen this week, were repeats of last year. :(

Yes! I dvr'ed that one!

Dargster- Let me tell you where Phead has been. Ready?

Laguna Beach Christian Retreat in PCB.

He doesn't know which church he went with, but the volleyball team was staying in Rosemary so he went. And he scored 2 tickets for me to the LSwho game in the process. He got back and had to get a wisdom tooth yanked. His biggest concern? What's he going to eat.

A client of ours came in the office last week. He had just returned from vacation in Sowal the week before. I told him I would be going down for Labor Day. He then told me he wasn't trying to scare me but the night before he left they took a helicopter ride over the beach and the amt of sharks he saw close to the beach amazed him.

You need only one movie in your rental house collection of DVD's -- JAWS

Just got off the water for a lunch paddle down the beach. I've been going in the middle of the afternoon, and haven't seen much other than a huge Stingray the other day. However, today, I paddled along with two Sharks for a good 5 minutes. I was able to stay about 20 ft to the side and slightly behind them. The larger of the two was about the length of my kayak (around 8 ft) and the other one was around 5 - 6 ft in length. I couldn't make out the species. I was so excited to be out there with them. Only a couple of days ago, I told a friend that I was going to get out there earlier in the day so that I could see a little more activity. I first spotted them in front of GBSP (east side of Grayton), at the northern edge of the second sandbar. :D Mermaid, get ready for some sight seeing!

Oh. My. Gosh.
I swim every single day. But I do stay in front of the sandbar.
I hope the sharks do not find me enticing.

They were just putzing along at a slow pace (like they were in a big@ss aquarium). No harm, no foul. I never saw them even look my way. I feared that if I attempted to get closer, they might swim off. I was just along for the ride. Stay between the first sandbar and the beach when swimming, even though I know for a fact that some Blacktips hang out there at the Pier in PSJ, because all those kids fish for them every night. I am going to get over you way before too long, and I will look you up.

It was one of those days when the water was perfect and the sky was cloudless. On a deserted beach that is now Seaside a friend and I downed two bottles of champagne in honor of her coming nuptials. We swam pretty far out. The only other person on the beach whistled and pointed to the six foot shadow between us and the shore. We yukked it up (somewhat nervously I'll admit), waited for it to pass and slowly made our way back to shore. What a great day that was.

Sharks are always there, we just don't see them. While I don't recommend it, I've found that when I swim towards sharks and barracudas while snorkeling, they run away.

Who, the sharks or posters like SJ? ;-)
I'm still swimming every day.
I've done some truly stupid stuff and lived to tell the tale, and don't consider swimming in the Gulf in that category--it's just that I don't want to be chomped on.
Joe if/when you get out this way give me a shout.

As a diver - I have seen sharks numerous times - they truly aren't interested in humans. I would never give up the beautiful things I have seen in and around the ocean for the tiny chance of being bitten by a shark - but I also will never put bait in my pocket either while fishing or swimming in the ocean. Sharks really are awe inspirings to observe when you are in their home.

a few years ago, my orthopedic surgeon was scuba diving with his wife in the bahamas (they do this regularly and do a lot of underwater photography). but on this trip, they encountered a shark who attacked the wife and severed her arm at the shoulder, almost completely. the arm was saved after several surgeries (some very experimental) and very long recovery.

I don't think sharks are out to get us, but if we are in their territory, then there is always a risk. there is no predicting the behavior of a shark or any wild animal, fish ,etc......
I say be well-informed, prepared, skilled (swimmer, diver, boater), and be alert and respectful of the ocean environment you are exploring.
