Power outtage and Storm

Last night around 5:30 pm we had a lightning storm like no other I have seen here in 13 years except when we built our house, had just put $600 worth of grass seed down, and watched it wash down our driveway and cry.

It came down so hard early evening and the winds really picked up, and little tornados. Hubby and I sat in the garage with doors open watching. I got soaked cause I knew it was coming and I was staking my gladiola garden. But it was refreshing after the heat we had. Lost power, lightning caused our car alarms to go off, etc. It was pretty wild. Almost like a tropical storm.
Power finally came back on sometime this morning, fortunately we have a built in generator and hooked up fans, able to watch some TV.

High speed cable out AGAIN. :bang:

Sounds wild! I love storms though--if they're not of the tornadic variety. Cable out again!!:(

It was wild. We had to sit back about 6 ft or so in the garage because we would have gotten soaked, but we set up our beach chairs and enjoyed the show. The rain was going in swirls and came down in buckets. The lightning was wild too. I staked my gladiolas, and then I was at the mailbox when it got really dark, and I couldn't run back to the house because I had flip flops on and they got slippery. Chris was hysterical laughing cause it came down and I got soaked, but I had to put twine on my morning glories, they are growing up the mailbox and I was the vine would break off from the storm.

BTW- OC- if you read, I saw one of those moth hummingbirds yesterday in my flowers and I even pet its tushy. :funn: It hung around for a bout 15 minutes, so I got a really good look at it. They are so cool.

WE've had a good amount of rain this year, so the lawn and everything is holding up well. I have several gardens, but this year I didn't do much to them. The only reason I have gladiolas is because believe it or not they came back on their own and other then planting annuals, everything else re-seeded itself. Deer got my impatients the other night though :pissed:
I have a deer spray that works great, but I guess it wore off the impatients. They even ate my flower box flowers  Never had that happen.
Must be because everything else was sprayed.

There was a whole thread on the moth hummingbird. I am on dial up, so I can't post a pic. It Looks like a mix between a bumblebee and a hummingbird.
Mine was green.

Rain? I do not know what that is?
We have no deer around here, just possums and raccoons. I love deer, but understand they can be quite the nuisance. I'd be really mad too if they ate my garden!

The deer are pretty to look at, but next house will be fenced in. They eat your plants and carry loads of ticks etc. You know what i am talking about DD. :(
I had one last year that walked up to my garden and when i went outside to chase it away it became beligerant and started making a hoofing noise.
Thought we were going to get into it :boxing:

Yes, I do know:(
I've heard they can be pretty agressive sometimes. Used to hate/not understand hunting, but when I became a master naturalist, I learned that it's not necessarily a bad thing....especially in the case of deer.

I can't hurt an animal, but I do have a sling shot :funn: Not fond of deer meat, rather gamey for me. I did try deer meet chili once, and it wasn't bad.

Sounds like the storm we had here about a week and a half ago  Lots of downed trees and powerlines. Some homes were without power for as long as ten days! Then we had a repeat storm last Saturday night that blew out even more power. To top it all off, once most of the power was restored, the power overload caused by all the ACs running in the homes caused even more outages. I can't remember a summer with so many power outages. Our local power company says the storm that occurred a week and a half ago were the worst in their history

Glad to hear you're safe Mango. Smart moving having that generator handy. We're considering buying one just in case we have another lengthy outage like the last!

Thanks luvthebeach. Just came back from dinner and we had to take an alternate route due to the huge trees that went down.
My sister is on her way over with the kids for baths etc. since her power is still out. I was watching the news and they said that the reason there are so many outtages too is because the power cables underground etc. are so old and they need serious updating. Apparently England issues fines to power companies if they go down. Japan has 2 minutes of lost power a year. We have 360 minutes average! and I think this year the most I ever heard of too.
10 days is a long time. Hope you weren't out that long.

Haven't participated as much lately....work too much, grandkids, life.....but love it and hope to get back to it soon.
We've done some really funn projects though..if you like that kinda stuff. Deer counts at midnight, planting wetlands at an audubon golf course (this project was my baby), I've done lots of educational programs for schools, girl scouts, campfire, etc.
Florida has a master naturalist program too for those who might be interested.;-)
