I'm About to Go Broke!

To those of you who have teens (underage, non-working) what's a reasonable, sensible allowance?

My 15 y.o. never stays home, is always going out for breakfast, lunch or dinner with friends (during the summer). $5 or $10 here and there is not so noticeable but it really starts to add up FAST when it's every day (easily ends up being $75/week)!! We do buy his clothes and some of his music, but it's the "entertainment" and incidentals. He "group dates" and pays for a date's movie ticket occasionally, etc. But it's going to be horrible when he starts driving and dating regularly. I almost need to go back to work full time!!!!

I'm interested in hearing what's been done, what works, what dosen't.

Thanks OC. Should have seen me test driving it in the store. The hubby was pushing me around and wow it takes turns incredibly and doesn't tip. I tried, believe me. He has it "parked" in the little house he calls it, a shed I purchased to house all our toys. Right now I am only charging hugs and kisses. I will wait till he is 6 to start charging for parking
I spoil them, but frankly we have more funn with doing cheap things, bubbles, water gun fights etc., spinning quarters, finding bugs. They could care less about the presents.

Does he have a Spirograph yet? My son used to LOVE that! Brought back some great memories for me as well.

No, he doesn't have one, and now that I think about it, I have not yet seen one in the stores where the games are. :idontno:
I used to like it too as a kid.
A few weeks ago, I went to a quaint village not far from us called Cold Spring, and they had a new store with all vintage toys and old collector cards.
Talk about taking a trip down memory alley! and I wish i saved my lunch boxes, since I saw some ones that were quite pricey. Barbie in mint condition was about $600:eek:

We just bought our grandson his first Radio Flyer wagon. We've turned it into a beach buggy. I see a Kettcar in his future, though!

quincy toy store in seaside usually has games you cant find anywhere else. If you go be sure to stop by central square records... they have lots of books on sale!

I have the Radio Flyer wagon too :clap_1:, the kettcar is great because you can adjust the seat as they get bigger, and it is not babyish, so the kids will use it for a long time.

I had to google it when I read about it in your post. Looks really slick. Of course he'll have to have one. Maybe in 2 years. Didn't you say your nephew is 3?
