For locals, this may be a good week to eat those Omaha steaks languishing in the freezer. Of course, any week would be a good week to eat some Omaha steaks.

We need a backup to help us board up in case we can't get in touch with the guy who always does it. We have precut, labeled plywood, ladders, screws, and all of the necessary tools (drills, etc.). Please pm me with any suggestions -- would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks muchly.

Lookout...they adjusted the strike to Pensacola/Mobile...

Not really. Look at JB's map of the models. NHC projection is right between the GFDN and the GFDL. Both of those, as well as several others, have Ernesto continuing to turn north or even north-northeast. Looks like we're the bullseye for now, but it's still a long way out there and the tracks will change again.

Since I posted that a few hours ago, many of the models have taken a more easterly turn. Let's hope the trend continues.

Glad we did cancel as we would have been coming in there today only to have to evacuate after a couple of days, if it indeed does hit that area. Sorry for the ones living there though.

Yeah, I'm gonna turn off icemakers (melted ice from no power equals ruined wood floors) at my house and my sister's, empty out her refrigerator (ours is empty since we rent, but hers is full since she doesn't), secure the outdoor furniture and stuff at her house and mine, and be on ready for boarding up.

And I had planned on relaxing at the beach for a week.:bang:

I am so sorry to hear of everyone's worries and impending work and stress (& vacation cancellations). Will be thinking of you all thru the week. My brother lives in Mobile. It took weeks to find him after Katrina. He never evacuates. Always rides them out. Not too smart but he's a thrill-seeker.:blush:

Keep us posted as this progresses, that is, if you have the time. If anything, just to be able to vent somewhere!

I am already feeling :puke:.Time to start backing up files. The Blood Mobile comes to town on Tuesday, so I guess I will have to prepare before then, just in case, because they don't want you doing any strenuous work after giving blood. For everyone who can give in the area, please remember to do so, if you are still in town on Tuesday. -- Sacred Heart Hospital from 11a-6pm Blood Mobile. I am preparing that Atlanta vacation, where I will eat some good food, go to the GA Aquarium, etc. Where did that Atlanta evac. restaurant list run off to?

I wonder if the Tax Commissioner will extend the appeals period???

Some of you should head on over to Athens, and pay me a visit. There are awesome restaurants here, like Last Resort Grille. I need a break from the books.

I think that usually, rather than driving around burning up the valuable fuel in the days just prior to the storm's approach, most companies leave their signs posted, and they can become flying missles.

In that case, given the current market conditions, I'd say the chances that the "For Sale" missiles will damage another house that is for sale is probably pretty good.

On my street, if they're not down 24-hours out, I'm going to fire up my chain saw and take care of the situation myself. ;-)

If there's an evacuation, when do you expect people will have to evacuate? In other words, when is the hurricane expected to hit if it does hit our area? Sigh...

As always, I'll be thinking of those of you who live there and wishing you safety and no damage!

Anyway, there's still time for the hurricane to fizzle out...

for the record, when the last few hurricanes came, the company that I worked for at the time took down all of their signs and then put them all back up after the storm....;-)

The computer models these days usually are pretty accurate from 72 hours out, so the decision to secure the house and bug out is usually about 48 hours out from projected landfall.

My guess for mandetory evacuation is 48 hrs prior to expected landfall. Leave a day or two sooner than mandetory evac, if you want zero traffic as opposed to bumber to bumber to Dothan, AL, as you run out of gas on the side of the road.

Shelly, not that you need it, but you have my permission to chop away. I might make a beach run myself and collect any and all crap which I can haul off the beach.

My signs will be coming down tomorrow if projected path is coming this way. I will also be reminding the other agents in my office to follow suit. It is not like buyers will be looking over the next 4 days anyway. Well, most buyers.

This reminds me of the house next door to me. A rental. The owners live in Texas and use VBRO for rentals, thus no rental ageny to prepare their house. When storms come our way, they do NOTHING to prepare. They have 4, (don't ask me why), gas grills in the back yard. I always go over and pull the grills along with their multiple trash cans to the east side of their house and bungie cord them together so they won't end up in my pool.:bang:
