Do kids hate people who give out something other than candy?

For halloween, that is.
I was thinking of getting some Halloween toys/games/stickers, and giving those out in lieu of candy this year.
Will I be the neighbor that all the kids hate?

as long as you don't give them toothbrushes or pennies, I think you'll be okay.

No apples, dental floss, old "I just cleaned out my cupboard" food, or dog biscuits.:floor:

Yes. :funn: Sorry, you asking someone who has a husband who PACKS those Halloween bags to the brim and starts 2 days ahead, carves awesome pumpkins and we get about 125 kids every year.
Candy is king, especially starbursts, bubble gum, and mini twix or snickers.

Yow. 125 kids??
We're generally lucky if we get 20. Although, we've only lived in our neighborhood for 2 halloweens so far, maybe the parents just don't trust us yet. :idontno:

Yup, we get that on an average. It started out smaller, but I live in a big circle, and parents bring their kids here from other neighborhoods because my whole neighborhood really gets into decorating the houses and it caught on, spooky music, the works. Its the second biggest holiday in the neighborhood to Xmas. They come in mini-vans loaded with kids and they start around 3:30 and it ends at around 8:30- 9 pm. It's also safe. The kids come in groups with flashlights. Parents pull the little ones in wagons since we all have long driveways. Hubby and I even get dressed up. ;-)

:( Our neighborhood suks. No one has ever come to our door and I decorate so cute. Oh well we finally gave up and now go to Seaside.

I would appreciate it if Little IBD got something other than candy. I end up throwing half of it away or I will eat it..and she is probably the only kid in the world who does not like, chocolate, ice cream and french fries... I guess that can be a good thing.

Halloween is all about the candy for me. I'd probably egg your house if I were a kid. Sorry!! :pissed:

A lady in Flamingo Village passed out granola bars three years ago. I had to turn Wes around and make him go back and thank her.

Stickers and all would be great, but I'd still have a little candy to accompany them. (But not the real chewy kind, in case the parent goes in to eat some of it up. I think my son's Halloween candy from last year bought Christmas for my dentist's family  )

We also keep fruit juices avail for the little wee ones and also the kids get thirsty from walking around. My nephew does not like candy very much either, so besides the fruit juices, I have Scooby Snacks or little packs of Cheerios for those kids. They sell those now travel size. But the big kids want CANDY!!!

Okay. So maybe a toy and some kind of candy, then. :)
I just know I'll eat all of the leftovers, which is why I don't
really want all that candy around my house.

The way to not have leftovers is to give the last of the candy to the last of the trick-or-treaters. If Louisville is like Indy, you can safely turn off your lights and lock the door at 8 pm (or 9 pm; forget which). The kids who come at the last hour get the mother lode.

The other trick I use, since I do the same as you and eat all the Halloween candy :!: is to buy candy I'm not too crazy about. That mostly works.

Yes, be prepared for a trick in turn for your lack of treat.

This is what I do too, otherwise I'd eat it all BEFORE Halloween. I buy stuff like Smartees (sorry, Allifunn:wub: ) and sour stuff. No chocolate, and especially, no chocolate with nuts ( ).

That's what I do too. If I bought what I liked, the front porch light would never come on. :D

If I have leftover candy I pack it all up and send it into GTTBD's office the next day. They'll eat anything! If he gets in by 7am the candy is usually gone by 7:15! :funn:

I work at that office. Every mom here brings in the kids candy so it's not in their house. I've noticed they are all thin too...hummm, their plan is working.

Amylouky....I think a little treat from trading co and a small candy would be nice.
