No man:funn: You are killing me...:funn: This reminds me of when we used to actually road trip in the good old days. Gainesville was as tough as it got, probably as bad as Baton Rouge

I am embarrased to say it, but in preparing for a Florida game in the late 80s, I actually saw a sign that read "Gainesville murderer sez dismember the Gators":floor:

Hey, Red Stick is a brutal place to play as an opponent. When my husband (fiance at that time) was a Tulane basketball player, a fight broke out during a Tulane-LSU game. He got beaten up by LSU fans. Tulane had the only black player on the court, and Press Maravich went over to protect the black guy (instead of his million-dollar draft pick son, Pete) because he knew the LSU fans would kill the guy.

I missed it -- was in NOLA studying for a test. I was more into A's then than sports.:floor:

That must have been 1990. I think I remember that. Did they do it in Death Valley? The SEC is so classy. :floor: Actually Auburn fans are really nice. The rest? Hmmm.

Yeah, the Aubbies are kind of like your stereotypical country folks. They are uptight in Tuscaloosa. Gainesville requires VERY thick skin. The closest I ever got to being involved in a football melee was in Athens-it involved some redneck tipping the cops off that we had booze in the stadium;otherwise, the Georgians are pretty genteel. Of all things we were flipped-off by a Vandy player for heckling, but the people there are like strawmen, just hoping they don't lose. I also did Tallahassee which was way more benign than Gainesville. Have never been to Oxford, Starkvegas, Knoxville or Lexington.

Yes, thank you, 1990. Galen Hall quit the day after the 1989 game:floor:

Auburn might be in the country, but I wouldn't stereotype their fans as being "country folks." My evidence is I-85 between Atlanta and Auburn on Saturday when Auburn plays at home. It is a parking lot. Seems like a lot of "city folks" to me.

The worst fan I've ever encountered was an FSU fan. We were at a UF/FSU game in Gainesville, nicely dressed (I had on a blue Calvin Klein suit with an orange cashmere sweater underneath), and sitting next to a seemingly nice FSU couple. We all bought food/Cokes in the stands, and hubby was closer to the attendant, so he paid their bill along with ours. We were having civilized conversations.

Then UF scored and were winning. Of course, I started saying "Go Gators!" The FSU guy totally flipped out and started yelling into my ear. It really hurt badly, so much that I started crying. He knew he had misbehaved, and the conversation between the two couples ceased.

I just couldn't believe someone would be so mean to me. I wasn't "dissing" his team; I was just cheering for mine. I cried the rest of the game. To this day, I have a hearing problem in that ear.

Brianne got spit on in Gainsville.
Not the most AMAZING experiences in Gainsville, but funn for sure. I went twice. One time involved Karaoke. Jfunn...you came once, didn't you

Athens...I can't remember. It was THAT insane. I do remember a friend of mine falling down a looong flight of stairs on the way out a bar. Tumbling...Literally

Never been to Baton Rouge.

T-Town...well, it's ok I guess. Didn't love it either.

Never been to Oxford or Knoxville.

BR, I hate to hear that...nerves are always on edge when we play but for that to have happened to you was uncalled for. There's no excuse for that.

I am now completely convinced Verne Lundquist and Tim Tebow are gay lovers.
