I have been ill since Saturday night. Well last night I did not sleep well because I woke up with a high fever--you know chills, aches and pains, sweating and hot dry mouth. Today I started coughing and decided to just run over to the University Health Center to see what they had to say and they tell me that I am one of about 6 students who had been in there in the past two days with the flu--already? I feel much better, haven taken some prescription strength decongestants. Everyone get your flu shots! Law students appear to be more germy than other people. Keep your a$$ at home if you are really sick, of course I say this but I know that I have to go in sickness and in health.

Oh no! That is far worse than the flu in my opinion because it comes with an upset stomach too, right?
It is worse than the flu because you can develop fatal heart disease!

Really!!???
I think you either get strep or you don't. We've never had it. Sam had scarlet fever in kindergarten but that's it. We make up for it with sinus infections.

and would've been much worse if i had not received the flu shot....not i understand why it kills the elderly and the already sick in such phenomenal numbers....

Many say they get the flu every year, but it's way worse than you could ever imagine. I've never actually had the flu, only flu-like symptoms, which is pretty bad, to say the least.and would've been much worse if i had not received the flu shot....not i understand why it kills the elderly and the already sick in such phenomenal numbers....

Yesterday when I decided to go to the health center here at school, I did so because my chest was starting to get congested and because I knew I had a high fever the night before, and so I thought that I had a sinus infection which was turning out to be bronchitis or something...what started to scare me was that my chest was rattling as I inhaled.
got any pics?
YES!!! I hear about Healthy Trinity all the time! I believe I am going to order some. And I'm pretty sure they are not sold in stores.
I buy it in a local organic grocery and a local health food / vitiman shop. You'll need to look in a refrigerated section.

I had the same symptoms last week - but just a little fever. started out as a bad cold but when it hit my chest and I was wheezing like an asmatic, it was scarey and I hauled my ass to the doc. I had a sinus infection and was coughing my head off with a chest thing too. some serious drugs knocked it out in a day or two, no kidding.

Oh yeah Rheumatic Fever. Doesn't it in some cases, depending on the overall health of the infected, progress to Scarlet Fever and then possibly to Rheumatic Fever if it is not treated with anitbiotics.

I don't know if probiotics boost your overall immune system (I doubt it). They are great if you have a bacterial overgrowth in the gut with a nasty bug like Clostridium dificil after a course of antibiotics. But in general we all have a perfectly balanced zoo of gut flora and probiotics don't do much one way or the other. Also, I googled the brand that was mentioned above and those things are roughly 95 cents per capsule! Now, that is expensive when you consider you could eat half a container of plain old yogurt and get just as much of the friendly bacteria. Vitamins are great for kids but may be overkill if your little ones eat a well-balanced diet. A Flintstone a day is not a bad idea. They sure as heck don't need megadoses of anything or herbs to accelerate growth, focus, etc.
Skunky, you are correct in the fact that our bodies should be regulating our gut flora, but the amount of sugars in our foods and carbs people eat can throw off our bodies natural flora, and some people do not fight the bad bacteria as well as others. Yogurt would be grayt if they sold it like they do in Europe all natural, but here they load it with a ton of sugar, and that just defeats the purpose since the bad bacteria feed on it. The only yogurt that I would recommend to anyone is Stoneyfield Farms since they don't have added sugars., But you do not get nearly the amount of probiotic in a yogurt than you would from a capsule loaded with different strains of pro-biotic. A healthy gut helps the body fight off disease.

I do believe in what you've posted. You most definately cannot get enough probiotics from your average store-brand, sweetened yogurt.
It's hard to have a different opinion with allopathic medecine or the norm, in some cases. (But my disclaimer is, I'm no doctor.)
And not to mention our natural flora is thrown off by the amount of antibiotics that we take or our kids take. My son was very lucky and never needed an antiboiotic until he was about 10 years old! Almost unheard of, but I didn't take him to the dr. for every fever or cold, etc. My SIL has 4 kids, 3 of whom are special needs kids and they are all on the strongest level of antibiotics you can take. Nothing else works anymore. I find that horrifying. (And I think about their flora and know it's completely depleted.)

The flu is terrible. . . certainly makes you want to die. And it is my pet peeve when people say they have the flu and are sick for a total of 24 hours. My son has had the flu twice (proven with a test at the pediatrician) -- and he's only 3 yrs old. He gets a flu shot every year -- 2 years ago they missed the strain and the shot was pretty uneffective. Last year the shot was extremely effective, but my son got it anyway.
Both times it's been during while my husband is out of town. I've been stuck inside with a sick toddler for a full week. Friends leave food and meds on my doorstep. It's miserable. Let's hope it's a light flu season this year. Of course last year was extremely light and my son got it anyway! I'll rephrase. Let's hope no one in my household gets it this year.
