Cindy & Chavez
VenezuelaDictator Vows To Bring Down U.S. Government
Venezuela government is sole owner of Citgo gasoline company
Venezuela Dictator Hugo Chavez has vowed to bring down the U.S. government. Chavez, president of Venezuela, told a TV audience: "Enough of imperialist aggression; we must tell the world: down with the U.S. empire. We have to bury imperialism this century."
The guest on his television program, beamed across Venezuela, was Cindy Sheehan, the antiwar activist. Chavez recently had as his guest Harry Belafonte, who called President Bush "the greatest terrorist in the world"
Chavez is pushing a socialist revolution and has a close alliance with Cuban dictator Fidel Castro.
Regardless of your feelings about the war in Iraq, the issue here is that we have a socialist dictator vowing to bring down the government of the U.S. And he is using our money to achieve his goal!
The Venezuela government, run by dictator Chavez, is the sole owner of Citgo gas company. Sales of products at Citgo stations send money back to Chavez to help him in his vow to bring down our government.
Take Action
Please decide that you will not be shopping at a Citgo station. Why should U.S. citizens who love freedom be financing a dictator who has vowed to take down our government?
Very important. Please forward this to your friends and family. Most of them don't know that Citgo is owned by the Venezuela government.
YOU CAN VERIFY THIS ON THE CITGO WEB PAGE.

So please, Diane41453094833, tell us where we should buy our gasoline, and back it up with the reasons why. At least Venezuela grows sugar cane (renewable fuel) to produce ethanol for their fuel source. Would it be better for us to purchase fuel from Exxon or BP, both of which have been too slow on the move to find alternative fuel sources and put them into production?

Skunky
I am not sure about the truth behind Chavez having poor Cindy Sheehan down for bitter Mojitos, but Citgo is without a doubt selling Venezuelan petroleum. I try to steer clear of Citgo when I can, but that isn't easy in SOWAL. While Exxon, et al certainly have their issues, it makes me sick to think I am sending $$$ to that bombastic thug whose theatrics in New York drew ire from both sides of the aisle.

I have been meaning to post a similiar message. Yes, George is not too swift and he has been an incompetent and possibly our WORST president BUT he is our president for better or worse and he does represent our country. He certainly deserves criticism for his wrong-headed policies both domestic and foreign BUT he is the PRESIDENT OF THE UNITED STATES and thus deserves respect. A hundred years from now when Hillary, Kerry, Reid , Hastert and Rumsfeld are but footnotes , books will be written about Bush and his times.
BOYCOTT CITGO AND CESAR CHAVEZ !!!!!!!

hey goofer - nice meeting you last night!! I agree with everything you have to say here. except boycotting - which is rarely effective and if it does have any effect it is on the little guy and his job, and his family.

Goofer, yes, Mr. Bush is the current president. i must respectfully disagree with the rest of your statement. in your own post offer that he could be our "WORST president" I cannot with a good conscience offer the man respect. the office of president yes, the current pesident no. His track record speaks volumes about what not to do as president, and his mistakes are innumerable(sp?). I type this without any party affiliation, as i would feel this way regardless of my party. the man can't leave politics soon enough as far as i'm concerned. we have a lot of rebuilding to do...

Okay, so you don't buy Citgo gas. Whose do you buy? Still waiting for an answer. Do you support the guys who are the terrorists (ie- Iraq, Iran, Saudia Arabia? Or do you suggest that we drill in the Gulf of Mexico?
Also, where do you draw the line for buying gas from Citgo? Do you buy it during a hurricane evacuation? Are you suggesting that I drive an extra twenty miles and burn even more fuel just to get to the station that has dumped thousands of gallons of oil into the waters around Alaska? Alon the 30A area of SoWal, Citgo is the only choice. Just in case you didn't know, Tom Thumb is a Citgo affiliate here in SoWal.
Still waiting for you to tell me where to buy my gas, but I guess that you may take a while, since it is like trying to find a good politician. Heck, we could even learn something from a country which grows its own sugar cane to produce large quanities of ethanol for profits to run the country, in order to not have its citizens not pay income taxes. You may be surprised to know that Citgo is also typically the least expensive gas in SoWal.

Damn Smiley J.:shock:Sorry, Kimmi, but when someones suggests that I not buy a product from a particular provider, I expect them to also provide information on whom I should use as my supplier. Surely, they have studied the alternatives.

Perhaps we should point our fingers no further than our own politicians who are in bed with Big Oil and Big Motor. Think about it. If we used our own renewable fuel source, why would Iraq, Iran, Saudi Arabia, and Venezuela give a rat's @ss about us in the first place? Simple answer -- they wouldn't. We are smart enough to do some amazing things, yet we still don't have hydrogen powered vehicles nor stations, which can break down water into H and O2. Give me a freaking break. Washington DC has us where we are today. There is no need to be faked out by some finger pointing as we sit back, drink our six pack and watch some football or Nascar. (In general, we all put our heads in the sand, yours truly included.)

Of course, the really ridiculous thing about boycotting Citgo is that by doing so you are not hurting Chavez. Guess what? World demand for oil will still be there unless you don't by gas, period. I'd venture to guess that none of us are going to go there. China or India will be more than happy to buy from Chavez, they'll be grateful to secure the supply. The people that will be hurt are the American employees at Citgo's refineries, and the people involved in in distribution.
SJ has a point -- there are no good alternatives when we are talking about oil companies. The money ultimately ends up in the pockets of a distasteful regime, whether it's in Saudi Arabia or Nigeria or Venezuala. Venezuala is the one I'm least worried about, to be honest. You want to make a difference, drive down demand. The only way to do that is use less oil and be willing to pay more for alternative fuel.

I always go to the Chevron station near CORAMS on 98. I like to breakfast at CORAMS, its my favorite greasy spoon....belch. So I stop at Chevron for a fill-up. Regular gas at the Chevron is 2.149

I do not respect Geo Bush the man either but I respect the Office of the Presidency, as you stated. Sorry I was unclear.

goofer, corams is still untried by me, as the donut hole is closer, but i've been eyeing it up while hitting the Home Depot in PCB or PB. i need to give it a try. i go to that chevron as well, but only when it's on the way and my tank is in need. to go there strictly for fuel would mean consuming too much fuel to get cheaper fuel, since the tom thumb on 331 is within 2 miles of my house.

SJ is right...OPEC is an el Diablo that we have created. All I know is that Honda is coming out with a fuel cell car. Where is Detroit? Why are tax breaks for hybrids being phased out. Shouldn't we have continuous breaks for hybrids/electric/alternative fuel cars and excise taxes for SUVs?? Oh, I'm sorry, that would put the lid on an already crippled big three in Detroit. Take wasteful vehicles out of the picture , and America doesn't need to import oil at all. This is an issue that the free market cannot fix. Govt. has to reward good behavior, and if you need to have that big rig, well, pay up!
SoWal Insider
Well.... I guess I will be paying through the nose because I love my SUV and want a bigger one.... I guess everyone splurges on things that they like.

Heck, buy gas anywhere in Walton County, and no matter who the retailer is, chances are that the gas came from a Citgo Terminal in Niceville or Panama City, so it's not like you can ever really avoid the company in these parts.

gas is 26 cents cheaper here in SC than in Florida.....no one can tell me it is because SC is buying cheaper gas...come on.....stations are hiking prices up just because it is a tourist area!!!!!!!
I bought gas for 2.02 a gallon in SC ....in Fla it was 2.29!!   GOUGING!!!!!!

I guess everyone splurges on things that they like. One need not drive a tiny car in order to get good gas mileage. One needs to simply have an engine in the automobile which is very efficient. ;-) Today's engines are far from being effecient.
