I recently injured my right knee, as an avid sportsman I am chomping at the bit to return my active lifestyle. I am seeking advice that might help expedite my recovery more quickly/thoroughly. Any docs or fellow knee survivors out there?

The injury: occured in a YOGA position--sitting on floor w/ knees fully bent, (heels next to hips) when I layed back--severe pain shot through my leg. The next day the swelling started, & pain--it has been over 3 weeks w/ little improvement. I am not exactly thrilled about orthopedics and am seeking to recover naturally. I believe the injury to be a tear in the medial meniscus (sp?). Presently I am: icing, elevating, on crutches, taking bromelain, TMG and Manganese Asporotate. Any other advice?:bang:

Three weeks without improvement? Time for an orthopaedist. Continuing your current regimen will only make matters worse in the long run.

mr. dd has stuggled with knee injury off and on for years. he had surgery back in the dark ages. now he's considering cold therapy (? is that right, skunky?). But, he told me tonight that he thinks he may have "loosened something up" when he took that little dive off the boardwalk in Aug.

my pop had his knee scoped a year ago for arthritis and it made it worse. he has to go ahead and get it replaced.

In all fairness to the natural methods I've been on/doing, I must say that I have had improvement--just not as fast as I'd like, would have been a better, more accurate way to have put it.
Oh, the peril of being a citizen of western earth--I/we want microwaveable relief, just add water you know. I've returned 80% range of motion, but still experience pain and some weakness in the joint. Anyway, thanks for the reply--any and all is appreciated very much

I, too, have knee problems. Once when I was taking a Yoga class, I realized that I could not perform all of the yoga moves which I wanted to. The pain was too much for my joints. I found stretching classes to be a great replacement. I learned to listen to my body. Personally, I think you could benefit from signing up with a fitness trainer, such as Paul at Grayton Fitness, and ask for some knee strengthening exercises. It will be money well spent. ;-)

reep: I still like Dr Skunkape's advice. It can't hurt to find out exactly what the problem is, and then be sure you are doing what you need to be doing for good recovery.
