I am confused  about couch potato part? Am I watching the right video? I just see a runner slipping at the finish line on his head.

I cannot believe the officials were not prepared for something like this. It was cold and sleeting here all morning. Poor guy.

Well, you see, something catastrophic like that would never happen to any self-respecting couch potato. :D

That was the kind of funny that you kinda hate yourself for laughing at because it's really not funny but at the same time it's hilariously funny. I hope the poor guy's not badly injured. (Though you have to wonder what kind of fools would sign up for a race in Chicago in October! I mean, give me a break: the weather up there is precarious at best in the autumn. You're always taking a risk that it might be super crappy, as it evidently was. No wonder he fell, and it's a wonder he was the only one who did.  )

That's a tough way to finish a well-run race, but I didn't see any humor in it...

poor guy, but he's a winner and he'll be fine... yes, most of us are very safe and warm as we recline on the sofa and watch the world from our TV's.

I think it is funny that he would go all that way and then slip at the finish line. maybe not laugh funny, but just weird funny.

He's in the hospital with internal injuries. So sad.

They keep showing it repeatedly on our local TV and it gets more painful-looking each time.

I've taken a nasty fall or 2 in my day, but I was definitely NOT running a race.

Mermaid, marathons are typically run in the in the Fall because it's too hot to run them in the summer, too cold in the winter, etc. Mr. Pod ran a marathon in Iowa one September, and he said it was actually too hot to be comfortable. The New York Marathon is run in November, the Boston Marathon is run in April; both risky months for ideal weather conditions, but that's how they do it!
One of the moms at school ran in the marathon in the video, she was receiving lots of congrats at school this morning!

I have a freind who's a cancer survivor & just finished chemo less than 5 mos. ago and she finished the race in 6 hours (never raced a marathon before in her life!)! We were all so amazed of her accomplishment. She is exhausted but happily triumphant!
