I have never seen so many trick or treaters in my life. This "Life in the Burbs" thing is stressful

We just returned from Seaside. I had no idea so many small children existed here! Lots of adults in costume too- next year I will plan ahead!

But it is kinda weird not answering the door tonight.

So do people not go door to door there?

You guessed correctly. Probably too many strike outs with all of the second homes, and locals tend to like their space and privacy. Plus, what kid in their right mind would have to work for candy. They can go to Seaside and the candy harvest comes too easily. ;-)

We had a great turn-out here. My favorite this year were the masks that looked like the painting "The Scream." Except that it had blood dripping down it.

If any trick or treaters came to our door right now, they would find 1 rather large toad (that won't go away- tomorrow he gets a name), 1 small tan frog, and 3 humongous Palmetto bugs.

Back to raiding the kids candy bags!!

We usually get about 100-125 or so. They pull up in mini -vans.
This year was slow though. Got about 75 or so. Tons of candy left.
Quite a few of the kids and their friends are in high school now, so I think that's why we had less.

Are you kidding? The high school kids were out full force in our neighborhood. Just because they're not so little doesn't mean they don't still love candy and dressing up.

There's a gaggle of them downstairs now in my house. They're swapping candy. All I can hear is "I'll bid you two Snickers for one full-size Hershey" "One Reese's going for one Almond Joy plus a Smarties..." It's getting pretty heated. At the rate they're going, there's not going to be anything good for me to raid tommorow!

you may have to referee the candy swap, plus charge them 10% of their candy for your trouble !

I don't dare go downstairs. When I left, the candy was flying from kid to kid. I don't want to get hit in the crossfire.

Ours were out in full force too, including mine. We encourage it. It's funn to still be a kid while you can. They just go out a little later so not to scare the little ones. Then they came back here for pizza then went back out again. I think it's a blast & will always love halloween even when I'm in a retirement home!

Our one stipulation is that since the high schoolers are already pushing the limits by trick-or-treating at their advanced ages ;-) , they have to wear really good costumes and put on a good show. They never disappoint.

I was surprised to see the teenager kids from the neighborhood come, but was glad to see that they still were in the spirit of it. They are all good friends and good kids and they go back and hang out at my neighbors.
They have hung out here with their parents too. I'll miss when they go off to college. :(

that's a good idea - around here they just wear a mask with their street clothes, go around the area, then they just switch masks and go around again - makes me so irritated :pissed:

we had a blast - it was the same to me as far as crowd and funn. It's always chaos and spidey (batman this year) is a zombie due to overstimulation but he still thinks he's having funn (halloween is his favorite holiday of the year because of playing with all his friends at seaside for hours in costume - it's not even about trick or treating or candy).

next year, we should plan our own little halloween party on the green so we can take the kids trick or treating, then they can run around while we lounge on the lawn with cocktails and food from modica or spiazza.

some neighborhoods in sowal have trick or treating, such as Grayton. But in my neighborhood, it would be like sending kids out into the pitch black darkness in the swamp, and they would have to walk quite a way between houses - then nobody would answer the door because they wouldn't be home or wouldn't be expecting children because its just not conducive for trick or treating.

we don't miss it because Seaside and other places (baytowne, gulf place, and certain neighborhoods) have done such a good job in making halloween more a fall festival with so many funn things to offer children and adults. It's just a big huge party! The adults enjoy it as much as the kids... I don't know why we have to go to school/work on halloween!!! or the next day!

I live in the country and my house is off the road and up on a hill. I have never had any trick or treaters. It rained until about 7:00 here last night, so all the kids got a late start. Jesse didn't even say a word about going this year. He is 13 and I guess he is just over it. It was kind of sad though. I am glad to know that all of you had so much funn!!!!

That was truly freaky! Saw several in Seaside. A mom came over with the red stain all over her hand...a real messy job for that costume!

Glad everyone had funn! :clap_1: The rain cleared up here just in time. Dylan ditched the alien mask costume about half way through. he said the eyes kept fogging up and he couldn't see! I think he was a little dissapointed in it. Halloween is his favorite holiday too.

Sam weighed her candy last night...7 lbs! Then Dylan has his too. Mr OL is gonna have to take a bunch to work with him. I've already had skittles, milk duds and a milky way today.

I saw some Frosh trick or treating but not too many high schoolers do around here. I would encourage it too as long as they dress up and put effort into their costumes!

this is a tangent, but does anyone remember when the big thing was taking your candy bag to the hospital to get it xrayed to check for needles, and other various metal objects ???

I miss when the kids would race home from school to get ready. I enoyed those funn days. Then when they went to bed I'd raid their candy:twisted:
