i was surprised, the wedding in the house in front of us seemed to actually be pretty tame. they had about 5 cases of corona, 5 cases of corono light, and 3 cases of heineken stacked up, and soft drinks and other cans of beer in tubs filled with ice. the festivities started at 4:30 or so the dude i asked told me. we were coming home from supper about 9:30 and way off in the distance heading up 30a we saw fireworks. we jokingly said it's probably the wedding festivities. it was. they were huge fireworks too, way up in the sky. they had a huge tent set up to the side of the house with a dj, and lots of loud music, a blend of country and rock. lots of singing along with the songs. the good thing is they promptly stopped about 11 pm, and instantly quieted down. this caused mr audie and i to have several questions:
do you need a permit to have a big shebang like this on the beach with rented tents, etc ?
oh yeah, i forgot the boardwalk to the beach - they put little white bags with candles in them, luminaries i think they are called, and tiki torches all along the boardwalk - and i am assuming the bride and groom walked up the boardwalk to the party because when we went to the beach this morning it was covered with birdseed all the way down it. of course they didn't sweep it off...
another question - aren't fireworks against the law, no exceptions, on the beach ?

So, Audie, did you enjoy the wedding?

are you near WaterSound? Mr. Kitty was told there was to be wedding with fireworks at WS. In fact, we heard fireworks while watching films last night.

no, we are just up from one seagrove place, i can see it from the beach. you turn at the little strip mall that has the mailbox etc. store in it, you turn onto lakewood drive.
the address of the wedding was 58 deer lake beach road. i could see this thru my binoculars.....yes, i travel with binoculars...

But Audie, I don't understand. Weddings are supposed to make you go all mushy and sentimental inside. All that fresh new love, a new life together...it doesn't make you smile?

no. i've turned into my father, and all i can see is all the money someone spent on the wedding.......that chances are better than average won't last. as you can tell i am neither mushy nor sentimental

Well, if a beach wedding doesn't do it for you, then nothing will! I hope at least you swiped a Corona or two.

AHA! Now we are at the real crux of the matter. It wasn't so much the wedding as the lack of good drinks to swipe!!

There was a big wedding at Watersound last night. They did have a large firework display....which is illegal!

...can't you get a special permit? Bb...you need to start a party planning in SoWal. Nothing gets by you! I bet it was a pretty wedding though...WaterSound is just a beautiful beach!
No special permits and it is also a big no-no with St. Joe. I am not sure how that got done.
I was at Watersound on Saturday and they were setting up the pool area for the reception, they had disco balls hanging under our wooden pavilions! It looked like it was going to be a lovely wedding reception. Our new house is right over by the pool....so I guess I will see a lot of these...hmmmm...maybe I need to keep a dress ready...slip it on...and pick up a few adult beverages in the evening..
Party planner:scratch: could be my next job.

Sounds like wedding crashing could be a new SoWaller funn event... Heck, Oprah and her friend did it.
There must be a way to crash weddings graciously, like saying, "I won't complain to the police for all the illegal things you're doing here on the beach if you give me a beer or some appetizers or a nice free meal." It's pretty much a norm in our community that if anyone has a loud party, that the neighbors can come over and get some food and often join in. Unless it's college students in which case we call the police because their food isn't very good and their parties can sometimes lead to bigger problems in the neighborhood (drunk driving, pranks, etc.).

Raining here, too, and warm (nice change of pace)! I like to catch up on my reading when we're at the beach. And try all the Sodoku puzzles that I never get a chance to do at home. I have stacks of them piled up again. I guess that means SoWal is going to be on the travel menu very soon!

No Mermy, who are you trying to fool? You don't sit still long enough to read.
