Ok, it's 2 in the morning, but my 17 year old daughter is standing in the driveway, talking with a 22 year old guy-friend and I'm on full not-on-my-watch alert. http://www.craigslist.org/about/best/rno/225180364.html

Bob, grab your shotgun, undress down to only your underwear and go out on the front lawn and look curiously into the sky. :floor:That guy will never come back.

this is funny sj, because when mr audie me my parents for the first time, my pop came out the front door to meet him in his boxers (because he refuses to get dressed in the summer after working in the hot shop all day). he didn't have a shotgun, but was standing in the front yard in all his hairy glory. the guy came back, and kept coming back, it's been 15 yrs we've been together now.:idontno:

You obviously don't have one or you wouldn't ask that question!

No, but I was one! I also have a 15 (soon to be 16) year old step daughter...and can say that won't happen with her either.

Nope, my parents always said there was nothing I needed to be doing at 2:00 a.m. except sleeping.

Well then, BB, you had better be a light sleeper and quick on your feet, because I can tell you with 100% certainty that at one point in her teenage years, that girl is going to be sneaking out past hours. Even if it's only on the front porch or driveway. Don't say that you never did it! I was a goody-goody kid and I did it...lots of times. And my own goody-goody daughter is upholding the tradition (not that we're planning on letting it become a 'tradition'). :pissed:

Nope, I didn't sneak out of the house as a teenager.

I was going to ask the same thing...I had a curfew of midnight. My kids will also have curfews.

I can tell you from experience that your parents were right! My parents said the same thing, but I didn't listen very well...

I want to echo your post, exactly. If you don't bend just a little, allow some trust, then teens will learn how to sneak out. I didn't sneak out of the house at night, but I sure knew how to sneak and withhold the truth sometimes because my parents were insanely suspiscious of everything (w/o reason).
And I might add, I'd rather my son or daughter be hanging out in my driveway at 2am or any time than somewhere else.

Amen Johnrudy!

I am inclined to think like BB that my daughter will NOT do that - but I am hearing Mango and I learned a long time ago never to say never.

I didn't sneak out of my house either (my mother....hell hath no fury) but did sneak out with friends from their house.

We can raise them the best that we can give them rules and you just never know:idontno:

That's what I did too, and was still sooooo scared that my mom would find out and probably kill me, or at least embarrass me to no end. And I was not sneaking out to see boys, it was just going out to hang out. But if they had just been a little more lenient and trusting, I would've respected them so much more. And yes, we have to do our job in raising them with rules but most importantly, respect.
You'd be surprised what you'll get in return.

Mermy - I'm betting your daughter doesn't have to sneak out. because you trust her and know her to make good decisions, she can just go without sneaking. this is the best possible scenario, and its all based on trust and respect on your part and hers.

It was inspiring, and a refershing break from the endless con-artist scams that populate craigslist.

If I undress down to my Hanes, I won't need a shotgun!

The funn starts at 3AM in my experience. That's when the night takes a turn home, or to watch the sunrise.

But not at 17. I was a good kid back then. Still am.;-)

Sorry I missed your posts. I trust my daughter, and she always calls if she's running late, and is never out past midnight. She's a go-getter, bright kid, IB program,1450 SAT, 32 ACT, job at the library, and met the guy at church. What scared me is that he's an Art major at the University of Kansas. Holy crap!!!!!!!

Tootsie, you're right on the mark. When I hauled Philippa off the driveway last night at 2:15 am, she was highly indignant that I was in a rage about it. Because, as she said, she wasn't sneaking out: the stairs creak enough to wake the dead, she was only on the driveway, and she was in full view. What was there to be upset about? Plus (this is the best part ;-) ), she was disappointed in me that I wasn't impressed with her excellent time management. You see, Philippa couldn't fall asleep last night, and it would have been a total waste of her time if she just lay in bed counting sheep when she could have been having a conversation with her boyfriend instead. The logic of teens slays me.
