I saw it coming. I just wanted to start the thread before a crazed Auburn fan did...yes that's you Kimmi.

Peace out, Shula.

Poor Shula, I always wanted to see him do well. I remember seeing him QB Alabama in Tiger Stadium in 1985. That may have been an omen as LSU/Bama tied that day, and that was the only time between 1969 and 2000 Alabama did anything other than win in Baton Rouge.:pissed:

Here is my opinion. I think they should have given Shula one more year to build the program. He was in a tight spot coming in to Alabama, and not being able to recruit really hurt us. However, he is leaving with 4 mil in his pocket so I think that he will be just fine. Now, about Spurrier...OMG, I would never believe that I would for one minute be a fan of a team that he coached. I am not saying he is not a good coach, he is. But Alabama? I have heard the rumors, are they true? Is he coming here? What am I going to do? Well, I guess I am going to keep rooting for my team and love them despite all....even Spurrier!!!!

Spurrier's jet just left Ocala on its way back to Columbia. He was recruiting QB John Brantley down there.

Sorry Bama fans but Spurrier will not be your next coach. I'm suprised you would stoop so low as to want him after how much you claimed you hated him when he was at Florida. :idontno:

I don't want him, and I did hate him. Well, hate is a harsh word. I disliked him very much. At least I am honest about it.

Looking for the 4th coach since 2000 and the 9th since Bear Bryant. Bill Curry just said Alabama is insane because the definition of insanity is repeating mistakes, expecting different results.

NO -
Saban
Spurrier

Maybe -
Rodriguez
Petrino
Leavitt

Kurt, why not just worry about your own team? Regardless of who Alabama chooses, it will be an upgrade. Neither you, nor anyone here, has a clue about the things that truly led to Shula's dismissal. Want a comparison? Think Ron Zook.

I was relaying what I saw on the news. I am interested at what happens in the SEC and other schools. Ron Zook never had a 10-2 season nor did he lose 4 in a row to our biggest rival.

If we don't have a clue, fill us in.

Who cares anymore? I think I'd be a better coach than anyone on that list.

Coach Whitey- It has a nice ring to it.

I'm just going to keep my focus on basketball.

In a nut, this is it: Shula was asked to make suggestions on how to improve things. He offered none. He was asked to fire assistants. He refused.

So he was fired. And that's it. It's not complicated

And BTW, I'm glad you know so much about who Alabama will/will not get. I don't know anything along those lines and I work on campus.

Enlighten a fellow Bama fan. Who WILL we get? I like Petrino.

Your guess is as good as mine. I'll agree with Kurt on one thing - it won't be Saban or Spurrier. It could be one of the following or it could be someone no one has thought of:

Rich Rodriguez
Paul Johnson
Jim Grobe
Bob Petrino

I think football is just beyond ridiculous. If Alabama would give a good coach a chance to grow the team, regardless of losses to Auburn, then they just might get somewhere one day. I really can't stand the politics and win-win-win at all cost mindset... The sport has no soul...

I don't love Spurrier either...How about Bama just get a new line coach and keep Shula for a bit longer?!?!?!

It's a little more complicated than that. You have to understand the way the landscape of college football is right now to have a clear understanding of why this happened.

Bottom line, Mike Shula was given an opportunity to save his job by proposing changes. He refused to do so. Therefore, the UA folks had no choice but to dismiss him.

I realize it's a complicated situation at every college football program. Though I don't claim to understand any of it. I find it hard to believe that Shula refused to propose changes. Perhaps he wanted out.

When Spurrier left Florida, he said 11 years is probably long enough for one coach to be at one school and that any longer wouldn't be good for the man or the school. Call him what you will but dumb he's not.

If Bama has fired Shula before securing a top notch replacement then they may be doomed to repeat recent mistakes. Alabama has gotten themselves into a real mess and unless they hit a homerun things may not get better and Tubberville will continue to benefit.

We'll see if someone like Petrino or Rodriguez step up but my belief is they are too smart to go to a place where expectations are too high and the trigger too quick. But money is loud so we'll see.

I figured they would make contact with a top 3 or 4 prospects over the past week and come back and fire Shula if they got someone on the line. If they did not get who they wanted then they would require him to clean out his offensive staff half-hoping that he would, although knowing he might request to be fired and take the buyout.

Kurt, how do you know that conversations haven't aready taken place? Fact is, you don't. I can tell you without reservation that Alabama started putting out feelers three weeks ago.

Most coaches cannot be officially contacted (or refuse to be contacted) while their respective seasons are still underway.

Please stop commenting on a situation of which I have forgotten more than you'll ever know.

What exactly about my comments do you have a problem with? I said I figured conversations have taken place and assume they have.

Are you involved in the process? If so, your forgetting so much might explain some of the problems Alabama seems to be having.

Did Mike Shula know you were "putting out feelers"? Was this before or after the loss to Mississippi State? Are feelers sent out on a jet to cities like Louisville?
