Right you are, but you cannot see the dirt roads with a basic 3x optical zoom from space, as seen in the photos of this on the edge of space example noted above, so what's the difference?

True, but you were talking about using a weather balloon and fishing poll so that would probably work out for you. Unless you've got an abnormally long line. ;-)
P.S. Have the camera set to look through the bottom of the cooler or you might not get the right shots.
Better yet save even more money. I know a pilot that will fly you over South Walton for an oyster lunch, way less than $150.00.
