Beginning October 30, 2023, both lanes of Scenic 30A will be closed at Deer Lake east of Seagrove due to the construction of a new bridge.

The project encompasses relocating utilities, removing the current box culvert, installing a new precast concrete bridge, realigning the road and multiuse path, and setting up drainage facilities. Anticipated to last 180 days, the contract is scheduled for completion in the spring of 2024.

Sealed bids for the East County Road 30A Road and Bridge Construction at Deer Lake
Project will be received by the Board of County Commissioners, Walton County, Florida,
hereinafter referred to as "County" at:
Office of Central Purchasing

DeFuniak Springs, Florida 32435
Until 3:30 P.M. LOCAL TIME on JULY 6, 2023, for furnishing labor and materials and
performing all work set forth in the Invitation to Bid; Instruction to Bidders; Bid Form;
Contract Documents, which include but are not limited to Roadway Construction Plans
prepared by Halff Associates, Inc. dated May 4, 2023; consisting of Sheet Numbers 1 – 17
and S – 1; Bridge Construction Plans prepared by Cowles, Murphy, Glover & Associates,
dated February 22, 2023 consisting of Sheet Numbers B1 – B11; Geotechnical Engineering
Report prepared by Southern Earth Science, revised on May 18, 2022; and Florida
Department of Environmental Protection 404 and ERP Permits are anticipated (and will be
obtained by Walton County), which comprise the Bidding Documents prepared by Walton
County. IMMEDIATELY FOLLOWING the scheduled closing time for the reception of bids,
all bid proposals which have been submitted in accordance with the conditions of the
Invitation to Bid, Instructions to Bidders and any Addenda issued in relation to this Project
will be publicly opened and read aloud.
Walton County desires to construct a new bridge and reconstruct a total of
approximately 625 feet of CR 30A roadway and 420 feet of Timpoochee Trail adjacent to
the reconstructed roadway and new bridge on CR 30A. The project is located between the
Towns of Seaside and Watersound in southeast Walton County. This document serves as
a description of general construction responsibilities between the Contractor and Walton
County.

Watersound Parkway is going to be challenging. Hopefully the interesetion of 30A will be completed and flow better and the 98 intersection needs fixing it is dangerous.

This should push some newbies over to demand the forest road.

Won't somebody think of the golf carters who won't be able to go around and the snowbirds with unlimited time!

I've been fine with a "bypass" that follows the forest edge around Seagrove. It's kind of there now it's called a fire break.

It's part of state forest and state park. Leave it alone.

Public Notice: 30A Road Closure Clarification​

CR 30A will be closed later this year for a full bridge construction at Deer Lake near Deer Lake State Park. Walton County is currently in the process of selecting a general contractor for the bridge construction. The road closure dates will not be scheduled until a contract is approved by the Walton County Board of County Commissioners. We anticipate the closure to begin late October or early November 2023. Message boards and detour signage will be erected giving the public two weeks notice prior to the closure. If you have any questions please visit Walton County Road Closures.

Dollars to doughnuts the following is said at a county meeting:

- How was I supposed to know?
- Why not do it during the summer?
- Pave the forest.
- How will my renters survive?
- Should we be replacing this bridge?

Sucks for businesses close to the bridge on either side otherwise RPP.

Accentuates the need for a fire station in Seacrest. And fixing traffic lanes and signals at Watersound Parkway at 30A and 98 intersections.

If your business goes under because of a temporary road closure, then the road closure just sped things along.

That's quite an cavalier attitude for a business like Old Florida Fish House that could see 1/2 or less of normal revenues. There are businesses on 30A that require the normal amount of tourist traffic to even cover expenses and make a living. It remains to be seen which ones have enough reserves to miss a season or a year or whatever time it takes.

Not to mention very bad timing for new businesses at Greenway Station or others who are new in the area and finding their legs yet.

There are people staying on the east end of 30A who will never get on 98 to hit points west of the closure. And those who do may not visit anywhere from 395 east to the closure - Angelina's, Cafe Thirty-A, and a hundred other businesses on that stretch will suffer,

Quite often, we go overboard with our assessment of "coming events". As I recall the county employed a temporary bridge when they rebuilt the Draper Lake Bridge. Most likely, they can do that again here.

I would be surprised if they used a temporary bridge. It's just going to suck for a few months. We've been dealing with bridge builds between Grayton and Blue Mountain for years, but now they're all complete. They all took too long and there never was a good time to do them, but they needed to be done.

I remembered we had a temp bridge somewhere west of Grayton. I was thinking it was after one failed.

That was because the old culvert bridge (currently in place at Deer Lake) at Big Redfish failed after a rain event. The temporary bridge was installed after the wash out and was then removed and the road closed while the replacement was installed. People raised hell during that time and claimed there businesses would fail, they did not.

Perhaps uncaring is a better word. I care about friends and families who own and work at businesses that will suffer.

Then I would expect you would frequent them to help them out. I've lived through multiple bridge replacements and I remember it not impacting me financially.

I'm curious why your drumming this up into a panic that people will lose their jobs, homes, and businesses?

I have seen firsthand the decrease in business resulting in pain from road closings and I am concerned about my neighbors. I don't know why anyone would dismiss the situation so callously. No need to continue it is clear how you feel.
