Well, the government is doling out the money so how it gets dispensed is not going to be, well, not according to... well, after it's already been picked through, what's left doesn't get... wait... why is the government deciding winners and losers again? Sad really.

The link isn't working - I can get to the correct page but the stimulus part doesn't load. :idontno:

Does that have anything to do with the fact that we don't have a military base in Walton? I know stimulus projects at Eglin and Tyndall were responsible for quite a few Walton paychecks this year.

I find it hard to believe we only got 2.2 million - I would think Medicaid and unemployment account for a good portion of that.

P.S. I love how we complain about how much the government is spending ......... when we're not complaining that we got stinted on the handouts.

The link worked today - basically we are repaving 30-A and adding sidewalks?

How come we couldn't build a bridge w/ it? ;-)

Their #5 in their top five is "replacement airfield lighting". Um hello. If we're going to blow borrowed cash like this, stop wasting it on photo cells in colorado and spend some fricking money fixing/protecting N.O. from another dissaster.

No need to worry, there is another stimulus bill... err, I mean "job creation" bill in the works. I guess this one is going to be devised to go toward projects that might actually create jobs and not social programs.

From The Hill...

Senate Democrats will take up a new job-creation bill in the wake of the 10.2 percent unemployment rate, Majority Leader Harry Reid told his colleagues Tuesday.
Sen. Ben Cardin (D-Md.) told The Hill that Reid (D-Nev.) made the announcement about a new jobs bill at the Senate Democrats? weekly lunch.

Reid said he was looking at an initiative focused on job creation ?and that our caucus will take it up,? Cardin said.

The story I got is to get the dollars you have to apply. Our people decided that none of our projects were "shovel ready" so no one filled out the paperwork.

Personally, I think this speaks volumes for the attitudes in local government, way too much money for way too long, they are now having to learn how to operate like other governments and actually work for the dollars.

Of course some will sit back and blame it on the post office and our zip codes.

Ever think it might be that some of our local officials are opposed to such wasteful government spending and chose not to participate. Isn't it a little hypocritical to oppose Obama and the spending and then grovel for morsels of it? Could this be a plus for our commissioners instead of a minus?
I think Okaloosa officials could learn alot from their Walton counterparts.

Personally, all of those grant programs should be abolished. Taxes are taxes and the people of South Dakota should not be funding the four laning of the 331 bridge. But the system we live in works differently. And all of our commissioners have said that funding 331 is a priority. All of participated in the spending of tens of thousands of dollars to go to Washington DC to seek that funding. And when an opportunity arises, we let it pass. Seems a bit hypocritical to me. Since they allowed this to pass, without application, the true statesman would be admitting their failure and writing a check back to the county for all of those vacations that it now appears they took at the expense of taxpayers. But have you even heard a peep out of them about what happened?

I certainly agree about abolishing federal grant programs. A bridge across the bay is a Florida and Walton County problem, not a South Dakota problem. But not seeking those grants does not seem hypocritical, it seems honorable to me. Maybe those trips opened eyes to the real issues. Let us know how many checks you see.:floor:
Just because the system is broke doesn't mean we have to give it our personal push down the path to h***.

Did you actually talk to PW and ask what projects they applied for?

I'm calling BS on that one - much more realistic that they were willing to take a junket at taxpayer expense and then didn't do the work* to make it worthwhile........................not a sudden attack of fiscal responsibility.

*possibly so their campaign contributors could privatize said project and get gov't $$ for it

Sorry for my ignorance on this subject, but does anyone know if an engineering study and/or feasibility report been done for a new or expanded 331 bridge? This usually needs to be done before you can figure out the cost and how to fund it.

LA always get shafted. Doesn't matter what political group is in charge of it. They actually did pretty good under Gov Edwards, has he been released from the Federal Prison?

How could our County miss out on the Great American Heist of the Century? Over 1.5 TRILLION$$$ stolen from Taxpayers and future generations. It will not be paid back, it will create a few short term jobs, it has no structure in place on spending the $$$. It will cost more to payback in 30yrs when Chinese notes come due.
Stimulus was a Chicken Little kneejerk reaction by Politicians who created this mess in the first place. Now they've rewarded their Frat Bros and gotten fatter while we squabble about how much we haven't gotten. Isn't anyone PO'd these Dousebags put us here and then steal a trillion or two more to fix their and their buddy's mistakes. I'm appalled by our apathy!
