Beach Vendor/Freeport Resident Killed

A beach umbrella attendant working on Okaloosa Island died after being hit by lightning in front of the Island Princess Condominiums at 520 S. Santa Rosa Boulevard today.The victim has been identified as 22-year old Zachary Fordem of Freeport. Witnesses say he was struck while carrying an umbrella about twenty feet from the Gulf of Mexico around 3:10 Friday afternoon. He was taken to Fort Walton Beach Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.
