Needs to be repaved. Wondering why everything this way is newly paved besides Chat.

Neither Chat Holley nor 30A are made for high speeds; we can agree on that. But why would anyone try to take the law into his own hands and punish drivers who are speeding? That is what you're trying to do, right? Scare some sense into them? Are you trying to prove that you can get them to slow down when a posted sign would not?
Whatver the reason is, I hope you think twice about 'drifting' into someone's lane. Just think of the results of a car veering onto the shoulder of 30A and then overcorrecting. There are too many lives at stake to be playing this little game.
Yes this can be dangerous. I understand SWGB's frustration, though.

That was on 393, right?
The first one I remember personally was the little block building on 98, between what is now the Chevron and Ace Hardware. And I also remember Lillian Rooks, who ran it by herself!
Mrs. Rooks was a sweet lady, I was friends with her kids. You know you can hydroplane (sandplane) on a dirt road?! The little post office was closed when I was a kid, the school bus used to stop there under the old oak tree, and wait for the next bus to take us somewhere else. Grace White was the bus driver.

The problem with Chat Holley is the easement is not enough on the East end to properly pave the road. The county will have to buy the extra footage to bring it into code. Also, it's not in the right place at the junction of 331, they'll have to move it back over. Chat's probably laughing in his grave. He'd made the county move it over in the first place!

We used to change buses at Millie Boone's house. Later it was 331/98. It may have been the bay fill after that.
Grace White was a GRAYT bus driver.
Seriously. I'm not sure they make them like that anymore.Beach Fanatic
that's funny I do call it Cano Square! moved here full time in 79 there were only a hand full of full time residents.
It was pretty remote but wonderful...........yes I've seen alot of changes.
I met you back in the creative design days, you've known me for years
I'll "IM" you.........
Jojo, is that you? Somehow I didn't see this reply till now.
Wow, that was so long ago, such a different energy was here then compared to now. Wonder how many others on Sowal remember living here when the only lunch spot in off-season was LeBleau's, and for supper out it was fried mullet at Chapman's or all the way to Basin Bayou for crabs. Any time a new restaurant opened down here, everyone in town showed up for opening night -- and we all knew each other!
