Do kids hate people who give out something other than candy?

I work with a bunch of skinny wenches who bring in their kids' leftover birthday cakes.

Birthday cake! After all the kiddie birthday parties I've given and gone to in my mothering career, that's one food I have NO problem passing up. Think of that nasty kiddie spit all over the frosting from the kid trying to blow the candles out...blech blech blech (I would never even eat my own kids' birthday cake, that's how bad I think it is)

Having said that, virgin unblown birthday cake is one of my favorite guilty pleasures.

Please do give out candy! It's just not Halloween if you don't get candy. I'd be mad (even now at my age) if I was trick-or-treating and someone gave me a pencil or a sticker. ;-)

Target has some great Halloween things that kids would like. I do not have many trick or treaters and was so wanting to buy that stuff, but it would just be a waste. I picked up a few things for my friend's children who stop by the house. Go for it!
